No Sim message in USA

Hi, our daughter has the roam abroad pass and been in the USA since 6th Jan, yesterday she got the ‘no sim’ message on her phone… ee technical have reset her settings and say all should be good but it’s still the same! Her friends U.S.A. sim works fine in my daughters phone and my daughters sim won’t work in her friends phone so definitely a sim/network issue. Any ideas?

Thanks for all your help… after speaking with the 2nd tier of tech support with ee… the quickest way to try and resolve was to head off to my local store, get a replacement sim for my daughters phone… send her a new esim qr code and then activate with her new sim card in my phone.

no one was fully sure if this would work as per the esim having to be in the uk etc.  thankfully everything worked like a charm and her esim went live in the USA almost immediately after I punched in the activation code back here in the UK.  I did panic for a second as soon as I entered the code on my phone I got an error message… however I think this was just the fact the SIM card dies as soon as the esim is activated.  Still I think ee could have pre-warned on such a message!

anyway, alls good now and she’s happily in touch again via t-mobile… maybe these esim’s will take over physical sims (like new iPhones in the USA)… and everything will become digital.  Thanks again.

@pumpmonkey  Sounds like the sim might be faulty if the device can see other SIM cards in the device.  Have your daughter clean the sim with a damp cloth just make sure it’s dry before it goes back in the device it could just be a contact issue within the device.

To contact EE Customer Services dial 150 From your EE mobile or 0800 956 6000 from any other phone.

Thank you, I’ve sent her your message.

When she goes to cellular data (same as our mobile data) option… it just says ‘set up cellular’ and when she selects that it opens her camera and wants to scan a qr code (e-sim).  Her screenshot confirms there’s no sim recognised.  She’s an iPhone 11 running iOS 16.3

What happens when she manually searches for a network and tries to connect to a US operator, @pumpmonkey?

Tap Settings > Mobile/Cellular Data > Switch Automatic OFF.

Thanks for the communication…

Unfortunately she can’t get that far…

Settings > Cellular >

She then gets the attached pic. Asking her to ‘set up cellular’…followed by a take photo of we code…  there is no cellular data option as cellular is not set up!

I’ve now request an e-sim from ee and awaiting her to wake up as still early in the USA and will see if she can scan the e-sim from her app on her computer.

Arghhh…. E-sim downloaded and she now has more info within the cellular section, although it’s all greyed out… I’ve logged onto ee and the e-sim needs activating and it says a passcode has been sent to her number… but she can’t receive any messages as her numbers not recognised?’

Hi @pumpmonkey,

Sorry, you would need to be connected to the EE network in the UK to activate a new eSIM. It isn't possible via a third party roaming network.

Yeh… not ideal when you’re in the USA is it?
