Hi,

Recieved this earlier via text:

Hi,

We wanted to let you know that, from 09 December, you'll no longer be able to use your EE shared number service on MacBooks and iPads.

Watch functionality, along with the Apple-provided iCloud number-sharing function, won’t be affected.

We’re sorry for any inconvenience caused by this update.

I’m assuming this is the “Calls on other devices” feature? That’s really annoying as both an iPad and MacBook user. A really good and unique feature (I don’t think other networks offer this) being binned. Bravo EE, well done 👏 🙄

The feature itself isn’t being removed in iOS 18.2, EE are removing the option from iOS 18.2 when it ships with their bundle of carrier settings.

The feature also isn’t dependent on iPads having cellular, Cellular iPads have connectivity through mobile data only hence MacBooks could also use the feature as long as they had access to a data connection.

This is my understanding as well. We know for certain that EE are removing the service (with their new carrier settings), but I’ve seen no evidence of this affecting the remaining ten or so operators/carriers which currently support iCloud Wi-Fi Calling in the US, Hong Kong, and Puerto Rico. If it is a limitation of iOS 18.2, then that’s unfortunate. But if it is just EE ending their service for whatever reason (costs etc), then it is really disappointing.

Received just now

Hi. We're stopping our EE Calls with Alexa service from 15 January and wanted to give you a heads up.

You'll no longer be able to make or receive calls with your EE number through your Alexa devices from this date. Please make sure you have another way to make calls in case of emergencies, like a mobile.

We're sorry if this causes any inconvenience. Thanks.

I agree; just got the same notification except for it being removed from Alexa.

I only HAVE Alexa devices due to this functionality.

I'm not sure why it's being cancelled, although I strongly suspect the BT merger. But it's awful.

Vodafone still offer the Alexa service. EE is literally removing any feature which sets them aside with no road map of other features coming in.

It's horrible.

And that last line really got me. "Sorry IF this causes inconvenience"? A 4 year tenured service that people by now will have set entire home systems up around? Yes, that'll be an *inconvenience*... and the "Thanks." Seems to brook no argument or care about how we will all make do.

Totally unhelpful of EE to do this, particularly for customers in poor signal areas who then have no choice but to make calls using WiFi calling!!

WHY EE?? This is a feature which some customers really benefit from and is necessary! Poor decision!
