I had payg with ee for years. Decided to take a contract and since, the service has been poor to say the least. The signal is patchy, speed very variable and service no existence. I have a dual sim phone, and Lebara sim. The Lebara sim is fantastic, so much so I hardly ever use ee. Lebara customer service far superior. Why is ee so bad, not just reception but service too?

A tad confused here - if you've had EE PAYG "for years", then you have full experience of EE's coverage. It wouldn't have got worse just because you've converted to pay-monthly.
What are the issues you're having? Are they limited to one specific location, or are they generalised? It may be a phone issue if the latter applies.

It's what i have said. Since I've upgraded to 5g contract, the signals patchy. Bristol around BS14 shocking, TA1 marginal. Switched over to my Lebara sim, no issues, like a mini rocket. Try to contact ee, waste of time, don't respond to my emails.
Just expected more from ee. I am quite happy with Lebara, the sim manager will select between the two, but prefers to stay with Labara and have yet to have an issue with Labara. As said, just disappointed with ee.

Then switch to 4G like it was with PAYG.

You didn't mention 5G in your first post.
Whilst every network site carries 4G service, the same is not true of 5G - thus you will often have a lower indicated coverage, even if the service levels are the same.
A 5G phone will prefer a perceivably weaker 5G layer over a stronger 4G one, providing the NR coverage is usable. This is exactly the same as when 3G was first launched.

That's good to know I expect somewhere in the ultra small print of the ee contract they probably say that, seem to recall the sales guy didn't mension it!
Happy with 5g phone, amazing speed with lebara, disappointed with ee. Thanks for solution, swith to 4g, but I bought a 5g contract.

What didn't the sales person mention, that you think they should have?
