5GEE Router - Slower speeds than Mobile

I recently got the 5GEE Router, unlimited package.
But I only seem to get maximum 20mbps down/up, whereas on my phone I manage to get 90mbps down/up.

Is there any way I can improve my speeds from my router without having to buy an antenna?

I am connected via Ethernet, and have also ran speed tests from another device connected by Wifi, both have the same speed. But if I disable wifi and use the mobile data on my phone, my speeds are much higher.

Thanks

Hi @JakeH03

It might be worth going into an EE Store with the SIM card to see if they can test this for you.

If not, they can replace the SIM card if you take photo ID to see if this resolves the issue for you.

Leanne.

So I've finally managed to find something to open the sim card tray on my other device again. And I've tested the speeds and they still remain at good speeds in the mobile device, as before.

So I'm still left with the issue that is the router.

Thanks @Leanne_T

Thanks for testing this @JakeH03

Did you purchase the router from EE?

Leanne 🙂

Yes I did @Leanne_T , only last Saturday

Thanks @JakeH03

Please get back in touch with our tech gurus to complete the troubleshooting now the SIM card has been tested in another device.

Hi there @Leanne_T

I've been speaking with EE tech support again today, they've declared it as faulty, and are sending me a new one.

Hopefully this resolves my issue

Hi @JakeH03

Thanks for keeping me updated I hope the replacement works for you 🙂

Please come back and let me know.

Leanne.

While you're waiting for a replacement router there's a couple of things you could try.

On the back of the Unit there are four external antenna ports, next to this there's a small black switch, make sure this switch is firmly selected to Internal and not External or halfway in between.

Also look at the individual antenna ports are they in good condition, fixed permanent and not loose or broken, these external antenna ports are directly connected to the internal antennas via a balance line strip feed and any damage to the PCB area can adversely effect the internal antenna performance.

Hi, did you get this resolved? I have the same issue. Only got the router on Saturday and it’s half the speed of my iPhone

Hi @fireglowric, unfortunately I never got this issue resolved with the router itself, I now just use the SIM card in a spare phone, and leave that on with its hotspot/USB tethered to my computer, sadly.

Hope you figure it out 🙂
