5G standalone

There was a lot of noise made by EE about them introducing 5G standalone in Swansea before the end of last year

Well I was in Swansea yesterday and there was no 5G standalone , my network monitoring said  5G NSA

When is it getting rolled out there? I visit frequently and wanted to see what the difference if any there is over the NSA variant

Are you currently on one of the 5G SA compatible plans?

5G Standalone is only available on All Rounder and Full Works plans released from the 29th August 2024.

Yes I am on the full works plan, 5G standalone is enabled in my phone the iPhone 16 pro, if it were live the phone would connect but it's no live even though they did claim before the end of  2024

That's very odd, have you checked the postcode that you were in on their 5G SA checker? Will either say yes or no that it is covered, doesn't offer any further detail unfortunately.

I thought I had read on the announcement that they wouldn't launch a location until they had at least 95% outdoor coverage.

I have recently been able to use it successfully in Glasgow (one of the original launch cities however) while passing through and it worked like a charm on my S24 Ultra with the indicator present for VoNR, unfortunately the iPhone doesn't visually indicate the connection the same way. What are you using to check whether you're connected to NSA or SA?

EDIT: I have just checked an SA1 Swansea postcode and it says it is not available yet. I have no idea where that postcode is in terms of location however.

What network monitoring is this?

You can either enter a code and see the network info using field test mode ( *3001#12345#* ) or use the nPERF app

I guess they made a false statement then, Swansea is on the list but definitely isn't activated

Hi @DantheSwan

Did you check the postcode area, if so what information did it give?

You can check 5G Standalone coverage HERE using the full postcode.

5G and 5G standalone are completely different services

I've not said anything about 5G, that works fine and is of no concern to me, my question concerns 5G standalone

You can read more about it here

Sorry for any confusion @DantheSwan

I've edited my response to make it more clear. When you enter the postcode, does it say that it's not available? @Matt_124 asked if you had used the checker, I'm curious what the result shows so we can get this checked further.

We both know why you edited the reply and it had nothing to do with making anything clearer, I know what I am talking about and there is no confusion on my part

EE announced that 5G standalone would be going live in Swansea before the end of 2024

It hasn't gone live in Swansea

I was just wondering why and if there's an updated estimate

You can see the announcement here
