Hi all. I am currently in Spain. I have unlimited data with roaming. I have really struggled to get any data unless i am in town. My wife has O2 and gets really strong coverage via Orange Spain. When I try to select Orange Spain and I get 1 bar and no data. I can get Moviestar very strong but 3G and doesn’t give any data. I have bought a CUDY 4g router. I also bought a 4g Orange data sim. Perfect coverage now. I have just tried putting the ee sim in the router and it doesn’t connect to a provider. What is the answer? Are Orange deliberately throttling ee roaming? I called ee in the UK and they said to forget Moviestar as they don’t like giving data roaming. I put the Orange data sim in the phone and I have full strength 4g. Any advice please?

@Garnett-Devon It’s not a Orange UK sim as the orange UK network shut down quite a few years ago now.

I get that. However EE offer full data roaming. They don’t operate in Spain. Your phone connects with MovieStar Orange ES Vodaphone ES or Yoigo. I called them and asked why no data. They said MovieStar doesn’t let you have access to data. Orange ES has a good signal on the kids O2 phone but nothing on an EE phone. I needed to stay is touch so bought a router and a 100gb Orange payg sim. It is not right that I need to do this as I am paying twice. I’m trying to find out if this is EE or Orange blocking uk EE sims.

@Garnett-Devon : You don't get unlimited data from EE when roaming. There's a FUP of up to 50 GB (contract) or 25 GB (PAYG) data per billing month if you have more.

No problem with calls on MovieStar. Just no data. I called EE and they said that MovieStar no data is the most common complaint. The router was bought from an independent computer shop so isn’t operator locked.

When you put your EE Sim into the Router (and Rebooted) did you check or change the APN Profile Settings are correct for EE UK, and if so did you Save any Changes and then Re Boot the Router again.

Hi
i think that may be the problem. I didn’t know about the SIM pin code. I understand it should be 1111? I have also looked up my PUK in case I get it wrong! I’m tempted to wait until I am back in the UK as I have plenty of Orange data left. Is this simply a case of logging into the IP address and changing the pin? Thanks

Thanks - I was aware of the limit. EE changed my payment date so I would get 2 x 50gb by starting the new month half way through my trip.

The Sim Pin Code, shouldn't be an issue, unless you have set one up, you should be able to just slap the Sim in the Router, Re Boot, Check the APN Profile Settings are correct or Create a New or Change / Edit APN Profile, then thats all you need to do.
If you have set the SIM with a Pin Code then you can input this Code into the Router it will be available somewhere in the Admin Settings. If you do need to put the Pin Code into the Router Settings then this will probably be Permanent until changed or disabled again, so bear this in mind if your doing Sim Swops.
