Holiday in Australia - looking at Roam Abroad & Travel Data Pass 1 month SIMs

Hi,

Just checking best way to do this.

Spending a month in Australia & planning to buy 1 month SIM card to take advantage of 'Roam Abroad' coverage in Australia.

Am I right in thinking this will be limited to 15GB of data even if I choose a bigger data package on SIM? Will I be able to buy daily 'Travel Data Passes' after my 15GB runs out?

Finally, How soon do I have to activate SIM card etc after I receive it? I'm trying to time it as best as I can before leaving.

Thanks in advance all.

Where do you get the 15GB data limit? It's a 50GB FUP data limit when roaming on contract.

As it is not in EU, if you are on contract, you may use your usual UK allowances there with up to 50 GB data per billing month if you have more, when you buy for £11.40 / month or have already as a Smart Benefit the Roam Abroad Pass or you have an EE Max Plan. Otherwise you will need to pay the charges or buy roaming add-ons as set out in https://ee.co.uk/help/help-new/roaming-costs/countries/australia.

If you are on contract, remember to text ROAMING to 150 before you leave UK to ensure roaming is enabled on your account.

Thanks for getting back so quickly - if I go through the process of buying a one month contact SIM & then add the 'Roam Abroad' option as a smart benefit & then click on 'I' & the Ts & Cs ............ it says 15GB FUP?

Can't think where you saw that. You sure you're not looking at a PAYG SIM which used to have a 15GB FUP? That can't buy the Roam Abroad Pass anyway.

Must be some mistake! Doesn't say that in EE pay monthly roaming plans T&Cs :

Fair use amount
If your domestic data allowance is greater than 50GB, a fair usage policy of 50GB whilst roaming

or in How do I get the Roam Abroad Pass? :

Good to know:

If your plan comes with more than 50GB of data per month, a fair use policy of 50GB will apply when roaming abroad.

Pretty fundamental to me to be honest & I'll have to 'tick' the box that agrees with the 15GB FUP in order to proceed!

Worst case though (i.e. 15GB) would I be able to use the daily 'Travel Data Pass' once this is used up?

Thanks

Yes, but it won't come into it. Contract Roaming FUP is 50GB everywhere I know. What you read is either plumb wrong or has never been updated.

I'll let you know after my holiday! 🙂

Re: timing of SIM swapover (start of contract) do I have any control over that or will it just be a case of once SIM arrives I've got to swap it & monthly contract begins?

Thanks again!

Swap it for what? Your contract begins on receipt of SIM.

Be aware that altho' you bought a monthly contract it does not auto stop after 1 month. you need to cancel it with 30 days notice.
