HI,

I have a TP link Archer MR600 router on EE 4G (there is no 5g where I live and probably wont be for ages). I want to put an external Antenna on the roof and have been looking at these  xPol 1-5G ones.  Can anyone tell me what the obi rating is about and what I might need, or how to find out what I need?

HI,

I have been reading around this threads and your answer above seems to be most similar to my situation andI wondered if I might be able to pick your brains a little more.

We live in a No broadband area (13+km of copper wire so no chance there). At the moment I have a EE mini hub and our phones operate on EE too.  we get about 2 bars reception inside and 3 up on the roof. I doubt we will get 5g round here for a long time (Rural NE Scotland).  We are not gamers or heavy internet users but manage to stream things with what we have.

I am looking to buy  a new router and external Antenna.  I have looked at the TP link MR600 and x-pol 1-5g antenna. (https://www.broadbandbuyer.com/products/42966-tp-link-archer-mr600-v2-5g-xpol-1-v2-21/

Would you have any thoughts on that set up or any other recommendations?

Hi,

Does anyone know what the Dbi is referring to on the antenna when it comes to purchasing I am asked to choose between 3,9 &11.  What is that bit about?

That's a lot of money for a low spec router and a 4G Antenna bundle,  would I recommend it, No.

The Techy bit is the Router is a CAT 6 4G Router,  quiet an old spec, we are up to around CAT 20 plus specs now.  In a nutshell,  anything that is CAT 12 or above is average to decent, anything above CAT 16 has Gigabit Speed potential although you will rarely see that on a 4G Network in the real world.

Hi @EssexBoyEE ,

Thanks for your reply there, as you can tell I am totally out of my depth here! So If I am understanding you correctly I should be looking between CAT 12-16 as over 16 is not really going to make much difference if we only have average to bad 4G coverage, I get 2 bars on an I phone at one window and standing on the roof I managed to get 3.

Would you be able to make any recommendations of Router/ External Antenna that you think might be good or have any recommended shops/ websites to go look in that are better than the one I had been looking at?
