I am in China right now, and despite having paid for a roaming pass, i can't make or receive calls.
Any suggestions? After dialling, there is no tone and it just hangs up. I need to get through to change a flight so it's quite urgent! No live chat on EE page, no way of talking to anyone without being able to ring them.
Texts are working fine so it's connected.

Are you on pay as you go or contract? If on pay as you go, you would need enough credit to make calls.
If on contract, did you enable roaming on your account?
Have you tried to do a manual search for a network, by switching automatic network connection off and then trying the different networks to see if they work?
Live chat is only for customers on monthly contracts via the app and by clicking on help, but some of us have not seen it for sometime and have reported it.

If you're able to send & receive text messages, then you have a local network connection and are thus roaming already.
Try manually cycling through each local network in turn. Are the symptoms the same across them all?
