Hi,

I'm having the very same issue right now - did you manage to resolve this? If so, could you please share? Thanks, Shubham

"Me too" style posts are usually best put in a new thread explaining the issue - otherwise the advice you need would have been in the thread you added to.

What's the specific issue you're having? And what have you tried thus far by means of resolution?

Hi,

I’m in Thailand and have a full works iPhone package so should be able to roam like home. I can make outgoing calls, receive sms, use internet but can’t receive phone calls. I’ve been trying to get a solution from customer service for now nearly a week without any success. They’ve suggested a range of possible options but none have worked. People calling receive a message that this number is unavailable followed by a message saying this number is switched off.  Maybe one out of 20 attempts do get through as a ring (but then retrying without changing/doing anything leads to the same issue). Hugely frustrating.

What are the solutions that CS have proposed? What did they suggest when you told them those had failed to work?

I would assume they have asked you to test alternative local Thai networks to ensure the symptoms are the same on each one? Is the audible message given to callers, in a Thai accent or could it be the EE voice? This would give a clue where the announcement is being generated.

I can’t remember them all but options like

  • Automatic to manual network selection
  • trying multiple network providers
  • rebooting phone
  • resetting network settings
  • wifi calling on/off
  • making sure call forwarding is off
  • 5G -> 4G only for Internet
  • a refresh of my network on EE’s end

they said they’ve escalated it to level 2 or something along those lines and that I’d be getting a call back within 72 hours to a provided local Thai mobile number which I can be reached on (this was last Wednesday). Still haven’t heard back and I called up today and they said someone would call back later. I’ve now spoken to literally close to 10 customer service agents on phone for an accumulated time of over an hour.

The voice message is not in Thai or Thai accent - it sounds like what someone would have heard if it was an UK to UK call. What’s bizarre is the fact that 1 out of approximately 20 attempts will go through only for it to not work right after despite nothing changing. I’ve even gone to a network provider here to ask if they are able to help. They said they’ve escalated issue would be on EE’s end and the only thing they can think of is the fact that if I was using their Thai sim and went abroad, they would have to switch on/activate voice incoming feature while roaming specifically. I need to be able to receive calls this week as it is important and I feel like I’ve been left to repeatedly call EE up for a solution only to be told to expect a call later by a someone else.

Hi @shubharma22,

Welcome to the Community!

I'm sorry to hear about the trouble you've been having, and that the you've not received the calls you were expecting from our team. I can advise that it is unlikely the team will be able to call you back on a Thai mobile number. Is there anyone you're travelling with who has a working UK number, that the team can try and reach you on instead?

Rach

Hi Rach,

My issue did get escalated to level 2 and someone did get in touch with me on a local Thai number as I don’t have an alternative uk number at hand.

latest is I have to now provide evidence of people calling me noting down specific date/time and what message they receive. This is now 1 week on.

i have to now acquire another eSIM from Giffgaff and get a roaming package with them in order to be able to receive calls. Shame it has taken so long and there’s still no resolution in sight. Hope I’ll be reimbursed for having to use a competitor’s product to be able to receive a phone call!

@shubharma22 Thanks for coming back to provide an update. I am sorry the issue is still ongoing I appreciate it will be frustrating. Our level 2 team are definitely the right team to help and once they are able to investigate the call examples in our system hopefully that can help identify the issue to get it fixed.
