It shows in both my Xbox subscriptions saved EE add ons that the game pass is active. Yet it is not working and I get a message asking her to subscribe.

Welcome to the EE Community.
Based on what you've mentioned here, it sounds like everything is active as it should be with this subscription.
If you try logging into the Game Pass app and select your profile in the bottom right hand corner, does it show 'Ultimate' along with a renewal / expiration date?

As I said. I cannot log into game pass as the system assumes I don't have a subscription yet if I check subscriptions it says Game Pass Ultimate, Status:active, Purchased from BT/EE

You could try resetting the box, @neilycee
Everything that you've mentioned, apart from not being able to log in, seems to indicate that it's active.
It may be worth having a chat with our customer care team, just to double check everything.

Maybe. I think this is a common issue with EE for some reason. The history of the complaints in the community suggests EE is indifferent to the problem.
