It feels like EE has now become too focused on its profits rather than its customers,

@Howalyn Why do you say that ? The app/your account being down it’s actually being done for your benefit so it works better for you. You’re not charged to have the app and it costs EE to have the app and have it integrated with your online EE account. I fail to see where the profit is made in that for EE.
And perhaps you should try it now.
