VAT

Hi, I recently purchased a phone. I need a VAT invoice. I dont want a 'business account':

I understand EE’s position that full VAT invoices are only issued to business accounts. However, under HMRC VAT Notice 700, Section 16.6, while a VAT invoice is only mandatory for VAT-registered customers, any customer is entitled to know:

  • EE’s VAT registration number

  • Whether VAT is included in the charges

  • The net amount and VAT amount charged

For expense claim purposes, please confirm:

  1. EE’s VAT registration number.

  2. The VAT amount included for my recent phone purchase, shown separately from the total.

This is not a request for a full VAT invoice, but a request for the legally required VAT content disclosure.

Thank you — I’d appreciate EE confirming how I can obtain this information for my account.

Hi @aspo,

Welcome to the Community!

Our VAT registration number is GB 245 7193 48.

Our charges do include VAT and this is charged at 20%.

Thank you for your reply. However I need a document that clearly shows the vat attributed to my recent phone purchase.

We don't have account access here on the Community @aspo so we wouldn't be able to provide you with a document stating how much VAT you had paid, but I'm not sure we would be able to provide this document without you being on a business plan.

I raised a complaint on the phone and EE closed my complaint  just now totally in breach of my wishes. This is rubbish I did not agree for you to close my complaint - I am entitled to a vat invoice under HMRC VAT notice 700 section 16.6 - I will be reporting this to HMRC- I wonder is EE stealing VAT from HMRC and hiding it by not providing residential customers who work part time from home !! SUCH A SCAM !!!

@jbfrontrunner  The vat isn’t shown separately on a personal tariff it’s inclusive so no EE isn’t hiding VAT from HRMC.  And it does say this on your bill

You are entitled to a VAT invoice if you’re on a business account and VAT registered.  your complaint probably got closed because well your not on a business account so VAT isn’t listed separately.

To contact EE Customer Services dial 150 From your EE mobile or 0800 956 6000 from any other phone.

thank you for your reply but everyone is entitled to a proper vat invoice- its either laziness on the utilities company side or a scam to get people to switch to business accounts - i am unable to make an expense claim with out a vat invoice , all invoices are suppose to provide a VAT Registration no but EE's do not and so frankly EE and others should adhere to HMRC VAT notice 700 section 16.6 which they are in breach of / see 16.6.1 and 16.6.2 below plus a customer is suppose to agree to a simpler invoice i was not asked nor would i have agreed to it - could not be clearer:

16.6.1 Simplified VAT invoices

You can issue a simplified invoice if all of the following conditions exist:

  • the value of the supply you are making is £250 or less
  • your customer agrees
  • if your business is based in Northern Ireland your customer must not be from an EU member state

The simplified invoice must include:

  • your name, address and VAT registration number
  • the time of supply (tax point)
  • a description which identifies the goods or services supplied
  • for each applicable VAT rate, the total amount payable, including VAT, and the VAT rate

16.6.2 Retailers’ VAT invoices

If you make retail sales, you should give your customer a VAT invoice if asked for one. You may be liable to a financial penalty if you do not issue a VAT invoice when asked to do so by a taxable person.

You may use a retailers’ VAT invoice if both of the following conditions exist:

  • the transaction is for £250 or less
  • If your business is based in Northern Ireland your customer must not be from an EU member state

The retailers’ VAT invoice must include:

  • your name, address and VAT registration number
  • the time of supply (tax point)
  • a description which identifies the goods or services supplied
  • for each applicable VAT rate, the total amount payable, including VAT, and the VAT rate

Hi @jbfrontrunner

Our Domestic Accounts are for domestic (non-VAT registered) customers. If you have taken a domestic contract, it would be on the basis of identifying yourself as a non-VAT domestic consumer to us, irrespective of how you use the service.

You may find it helpful to look at 16.2.1 VAT invoices and when they should be issued - GOV.UK

If you'd like to identify as a VAT- registered entity, for the purpose of a VAT invoice, our business support team would be happy to set you up/change you to one of our business accounts once they have completed the checks and steps necessary.
