Hey,
My current 24 month contract is due to finish on December this year, I’m most likely going to hold for the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra due at the end of January but when looking at my upgrade options I don’t seem to have anyway to do this.
If I take a handset upgrade, obviously I’ll not be due to upgrade again in the January.
If I take a 12/24 month SIM plan I then have to wait 6 months before I’d be able to upgrade.
So is my only option to close my EE account at the end of this contract, then shop for my new one once the S24 Ultra releases? Or are there other options available?
TIA

It also applies to PAYG migrations, but you're correct that it doesn't apply to pay-monthly plan changes. Excerpt from the PDF I linked to above..

This is not the case, see the upgrade eligibility rules on page 5 of SIM only price guide - if you move to a 12 or 24month SIM only plan directly from a handset-plan, you can move back at anytime.
The 12/24month minimum term applies only to remaining with EE for the period.
Remaining on your current plan or taking a 30day SIM-only are also viable options.

@UnluckyXIII you will reach your contract minimum term date you will not be cut off at this date as contracts don’t do that. They changed to a 30 day rolling contract until you decide on what you want to do do nothing and it will just continue on a 30 rolling contract

My understanding was the Wait 6 Months Rule from Sim Only to Upgrade to a Phone Plan was for New Customers Only, fairly sure (or it use to be) if you are an Existing Customer, then Upgrade to a 12 Month Sim Only Plan you could in fact Upgrade back to a Phone Plan at anytime during your Sim Only 12 Month Contract Term.

Oh I know I won’t be cut-off, but do people actually roll a £70-80 p/m handset contract, sounds like total madness to me, £80 a month for the equivalent of a £20 SIM only…. 😳😬🤦🏻♂️

Madness indeed, but many do. The whole terminology of "contract end", "renewing" etc doesn't help the confusion.
