ipv6 on G.Fast FTTC

dcrdev

I’ve just spoken to EE technical support about setting up IPv6 on my router. Initially, I was told that all EE customers should have IPv6 enabled, but we ended up speculating that it might not be available for G.Fast connections. Unfortunately, the guy I spoke to wasn’t certain and couldn’t provide any concrete information.

To give some context, I’ve recently transitioned from using the Smart Hub + OPNsense (dual NAT) to a setup with OPNsense + modem over PPPoE. Now, I’m trying to configure IPv6 for the first time.

This is my WAN config

This is my DHCPv6 config:

No matter what I try I cannot get it to delegate any prefix to me:

I'm really starting to think that it isn't supported - does anyone have any experience with this on g.fast?

@dcrdev  Up until recently IP6 was not available to legacy EE customers, however after another customer reported they had discovered it was now working, I also tried my old EE router and sure enough it did..

Not sure it is available in all areas or what the migration plan is. However before going any further you may be better checking with your EE router to see if it is available for you.

Then come back and let us know if you do get it working - I too am trying to work out the settings for my Asus router..

Until recently legacy EE BB was IPv4 only but in the last few days a few reports are coming in that it now supports IPv6. You can check if you are IPv6 enabled with Test your IPv6.

@Mustrum : Having enabled your router for iPv6 DHCP how can you check directly if it is enabled for you other than the above?

@Mustrum

I plugged my EE router back in out of curiosity and it says under ipv6 -

Supported: true

Connected: false

Besides that there is not much in the way of configuration.

@XRaySpeX https://test-ipv6.com/ shows 0/10 which is what I would expect as I currently only have a link local ipv6 address as oppose to a global one derived from the prefixes EE should be delegating.

@dcrdev   I had not used my EE router for a while, and did notice it did a firmware update soon after it was connected. It may be worth leaving yours on for a while, or overnight if it is more convenient. There was nothing to configure on mine either, it just worked.

This site is handy for checking if it has worked https://whatismyipaddress.com/

@JimM11   my router is an original Smart Hub, and the OP will probably have the white Smart Router.

@XRaySpeX  On EE routers there is nothing to configure, however there are q dew options on my Asus. The whats my IP returns your IP4 and IP6 addresses if the router is set up correctly.

@Mustrum Have a look if this Asus is any good for your router, still have the EE Smarthub+ 1st up so not worrying about IPV6 on the XT8 yet.
