Hi
I have been trying to import contacts in vcard format into my hub. Apart from manually entering them in to the phones, this is the only way. However I get an error "invalid data CHOP3-903"
I have checked the format by opening in a text editor and it conforms to the standard vcf file format. So I do not know where to go from here
As anyone successfully imported contacts. Would it be possible for them to post an example vcard that imported (after anonymising of course).

@bobpullen Some good testing there. Glad you got to the bottom of it and were eventually able to import contacts.
Exporting of contacts however is definitely something EE need to add to the router options ASAP. I really do not understand why it isn't there given they have the import option. Why they didn't use the BT hub or at least take the software and modify it for EE use without removing needed options is something we will never know why.

Hi,
I am also a MAC user who encountered the unhelpful "invalid data CHOP3-903" after editing the exported file from my BT Hub for my EE Hub.
Piecing together the various answers I was able to upload the edited exported BT Hub contact file to the EE Hub by doing the following:
1. Download BBEdit from the Apple App Store - there is a 30 day FREE trail period.
2. Opened the exported BT Hub contacts file.
3. Made the required changes - EE Hub doesn't seem to like long component values for the N-value.
4.From BBEdit use File >> Save As... and select 'Windows (CRLF)' from the 'Line breaks' lov on the dialog window.
BBEdit Save As...
5. Upload the file using Safari.
6. Check the HD Phone's Address Book
Hope this helps.

Hi JO2L,
Many thanks for posting the details of what is needed in a VCF to successfully import it to an SH31B Hub.
I can now get a Vcard File into the hub, but with only the First Name and Surname installing.
I cannot get the telephone numbers to transfer - which is all a bit useless as a Contacts list... LOL!
I've tried a whole range of edits of the Vcard Entry, including different Version Numbers (3.0 etc) and associated text modifications, but to no avail.
Have you - or has anybody else - got any advice that they can share...?
Thanks in advance,
Louis.

In answer to my own question immediately above...
HA!
Solved it...!
In my case, I have had to remove the 'CRLF' from the end of the Telephone Number...!
Example below, for Admiral Car Insurance
BEGIN:VCARDCRLF
VERSION:4.0CRLF
FN:ADMIRAL (CAR)CRLF
N:(CAR);ADMIRAL;;;CRLF
TEL;VALUE=uri;TYPE=work:08445434400
MEDLODY:0CRLF
ACCOUNTID:0CRLF
DFTNUM:0CRLF
OWN:0CRLF
END:VCARDCRLF
Now it all works - YAY!
Also note: Mobile Numbers have to be referred to as 'cell' in the VCF File, otherwise the Smart Hub won't import the phone number - even though the BT Home Phone calls them 'Mobile' on the phone's display...
As these issues might vary from Device-to-device & firmware versions, I'm running an EE Smart Hub Plus SH31B.
This is one of the newest versions, that doesn't have the grey 'Broadband' Socket (RJ11?) located to the left of the green Phone Socket.
Firmware version: r1.35.0-R-1138091-PROD-83002
2 x BT Essential Digital Home Phones.
Hope this helps someone...?

Check that the lines of your import file are terminated by CR LF. If not, it won't know where the 1st line ends & won't carry on to the next line. See @bobpullen 's informative post Re: importing contacts into EE hub - The EE Community

hi thanks the issue is not per line but per total vCard entry it imports the first vcard in the file successfully then stops and doesn’t import the second third etc . The file is saved in BBEdit with crlf as the end of line indicators .

Ah, OK, @runcornboy0611

@runcornboy0611
The file to be imported to the EE Smart Hub MUST BE saved / imported as a .vcf
AND - it has to follow the EXACT protocol that I outlined above, namely:
Example below, for Admiral Car Insurance
BEGIN:VCARDCRLF
VERSION:4.0CRLF
FN:ADMIRAL (CAR)CRLF
N:(CAR);ADMIRAL;;;CRLF
TEL;VALUE=uri;TYPE=work:08445434400
MEDLODY:0CRLF
ACCOUNTID:0CRLF
DFTNUM:0CRLF
OWN:0CRLF
END:VCARDCRLF
In addition, any International Telephone Numbers (e.g. Spain +34) MUST be edited to replace the '+' with '00' (leave UK 'airspace' code), or the number won't be transferred AT ALL to the Smart Hub...(!)
FYI: the DV 'protocol' will NOT accept apostrophes, even though that 'Character' is available in the Phone's own Menu via the # button! It just leaves a 'space' in the name...
And FYI: the BT DV Phone cannot 'generate' names in FULL CAPITALS - but it will display names in full capitals if uploaded as such in the .vcf file(!)
If you haven't already, download and install a PC Program called Notepad++ from https://notepad-plus-plus.org/
It's free, and it's clean.
With that program, you can inspect / edit / save as / etc your 'contacts' file.
I have had to 'Factory Reset' my SH32B EE Smart Hub more than once in the past few months.
But each time I have been able to successfully upload 96+ DV Phone Contacts to our SH32B, and hence to our 5x DV phones...although ~96 contacts takes circa 5 minutes to upload and install.
Please report back with success and/or failure progress.
Ciao,
Louis.

I've just wasted several hours of my life I won't get back trying to sort this. It's infuriating that this hub is soooo pedantic.
It wouldn't import the numbers because I'd left spaces in, and then I'd missed a CRLF right at the end of the file !
All that time to get a .VCF from google contacts to import !! Surely in this day and age the manufacturers know that most people are either Android or IOS and make it easier to import contacts, and yes I know it's intended as a way to backup contacts, but it would also be a really good way to add them. And there is no option on the Smarthub Pro to export them, only import.
