Using own Router on Fibre Max 900 connection

Hi

I’m another one using their own Router. (Sorry 🙁)

I have a 900Mb/s Full Max installation and have an Asus ET12 Router Installed. It’s setup for PPPoE.

I have been limited to download speeds of c.400Mb/s and, until recently, assumed there was a problem with my connection. Openreach guy turned up and proved a much higher speed with the EE Smart Router (Unopened and never used). 600Mb/s.

I want to use the Asus router for its Mesh capabilities and range. (I need the range for 2 external cameras).

I’ve since read that PPPoE may be restricting my speeds but that’s outside my area of expertise.

Any ideas that might help me achieve the performance I’m hoping for?

Thank you!

Just moved to EE from Vodafone; why do all broadband suppliers give us crippled routers?
I  have my own internal network so all smart devices stay connected if the external router goes down or is changed; I supply my own DHCP and DNS (Pi-Hole). To cut out issues with bandwidth; my home automation kit all run on another WiFi router (effectively similar to a wifi extender as it is on the same network).

To get this working with EE I just plugged the WAN port from my internal router to one of the ports on the EE 'Smart Router' allowing EE to run its own DHCP local network and I then use the EE wifi as a 'guest' and work from home network that is totally isolated from my network; effectively this is a "cheat's" DMZ. Using EE's DHCP on my router WAN port I can access any device on the EE network from with in my own network (on different IP address ranges  EE uses 192.168.1.0; I use 192.168.122.0)

nearest I can come to a network diagram here - the numbers connect from left to right

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

5GHz Wifi ---(phones/tablets/PC/Games etc)------>1

2.5GHz/5 Ghz WiFi-----(security cameras)------->1 -----> 1  Router ---------> 3 EE "Smart Router"  ---- EE Native OND --> Internet

Wired (Pi-Hole; NAS box; Security device etc)--->1

Home Automation devices 2.5Ghz wifi --->2  ---->  2 Wifi Router  ----> 1

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Biggest pain is remembering to change to wifi network 2 when adding a smart device.

Running this I have some 20 automation devices; 3 TV streaming boxes; several tablets; phones;  PCs & gaming machines. All are living in perfect harmony and allow any combination of devices to run simultaneously!

This also means EE get to look after their interface; and I don't have to worry about them teaching any configuration I have there (previous very bad experience with BT doing upgrades that weren't compatible with the backed up configuration; and Virgin Media who always reset the router as their 1st step in any communication with the support desk).

I would still like to have a proper manual for the very dumb "Smart Router"; preferably one that allows me to go round the horrible user interface; and I still back up the config

FYI: EE's New Smart WiFi Router UI Admin Interface might help!
