Upgrade from Legacy FTTC to New EE Full Fibre

I recently upgraded my legacy EE Fibre Plus plan (FTTC 80 Meg) to New EE Full Fibre 150 (FTTP 150 Meg), but could just as well have been any Full Fibre up to at least 1 Gig. It all went smoothly as to be hoped & expected.

In early Dec. 2024 I ordered the upgrade & EE booked an Openreach (OR) engineer to install it on 30th.Dec. He promptly arrived then in an OR van also marked with C.J.Quinn, so I don't know whether he was really OR but he did do a neat efficient job.

He laid my new fibre cable overhead from the telephone pole in parallel to my existing separate landline about a foot apart to my roof area, than vertically down to near ground level to a small grey external box & then horizontally to a entry point he drilled close to where my existing landline enters. On the inside he fitted a 1 Gig ONT resulting in this setup:

Once I hooked up the SH+ (SH32B) sent me beforehand I speed tested it at ThinkBroadBand to get sync speeds of 150/30 Meg as it has been since. I confirmed with the engineer that all was satisfactory & he left.

It took about 2 weeks before my legacy FTTC line was cut off. So for a time I was running 2 BBs, FTTC & FTTP, thro' 2 different routers.

I am longer using the SH+ but am using my original BrightBox 2 because I know it can reach all the places I want it to reach, all my devices recognise it without change & it is functionally stronger than the SH+. The only thing missing is IPv6 but I can live without that..

Just out of curiosity I wanted to see what the EE app gives you in the way of functionality of the SH+ but I can't get it to pair.

  1. I present its QR code to WiFi Controls.
  2. Pairing with Hub > You've already saved these details.
  3. Sends me to mobile's WiFi Settings where I'm already connected to SH+'s SSID.
  4. Same with entering hub details manually.
  5. Repeat all of the above.

@XRaySpeX Are you an Android or IOS user, and can you look see version, Android for me is at 5.53.1. Have attached the 2 screen captures Android wise on app settings, Samsung A54Samsung A54Samsung A54Samsung A54

@XRaySpeX Its all very intertwined account/router as the app does everything apart from make a cuppa, mine is co joined as 2 mobiles, and one BB on the single account, so can manage everything, but need new eyes or a 14" phone screen so not a real mobile person, always looked at phones for making calls. Anything else i can grab let me know, setup the mobile way back in Mar2024, so well forgot what was done, but do remember scanning the card but also using none EE ssid, password or admin password on the router, got my own set for everything. And do not remember any wobbles doing it.

@JimM11 : Not sure where that's relevant. I have an EE a/c with 2 BB a/c's, old & new, but no mobiles. The EE a/c is not connected to the router other than recording which model it is. The app only handles the new FF BB.

I regard a mobile mainly for going on the Net while out + a few texts.

I also have my own SSIDs & pwds and always have done.

However all this is just saying things for the sake of saying them & more suitable to a Chat Room but not any help towards the issue.

@XRaySpeX Well observations, when you cannot get to the EE site and had that before, the app does not work.
