Well I have just asked customer services this afternoon to switch 1571 voicemail off and they agreed but said it would take 24 hours.
Certainly altering the lower number of rings on my handset than on the 1571 has worked no problem.
Once I am rid of 1571 voicemail I am back to using my Panasonic DECT phone as before .

@peterhull418 : Both can't answer the same call. It's 1 or t'other. It's easy to check. Once you've listened a msg left on your answerphone then dial 1571 & see whether a msg has been left there from some no. about same time.
