To everyone having Wi-Fi dropouts & other problems - please **report**

It is now pretty much confirmed that the recent (circa 25/5/26) firmware update on EE Smart Hub Plus (with Wifi 6) to version r4.26.1-R-1860948-PROD-83002 is causing a lot of problems around wi-fi dropouts, probably all on the 2.4 GHz frequency (and probably on both Main and Compatibility). The update was something to do with aligning BT and EE routers, no other details given.

Many people are suddenly getting random dropouts which were not there before, which temporarily stop after a reboot, particularly by powering down for at least 5 minutes.  I personally also found our phones could not even see both Main and Comp networks when the problem was occurring.  Almost universally, the fix is to go into the router Wi-Fi configuration page (Change Settings) and change the 2.4 GHz channel config from Auto to Fixed (many are using channel 6).

I have also seen a laptop reconnect every 6 seconds (to the 2.4 GHz Comp network) where I have tried all the usual - update Wifi adapter driver version, back off certain adapter sensitivity settings - and I even bought a new USB Wifi Dongle, which also would not connect stably. This laptop was absolutely fine before the update (as were the phones that were dropping off the wifi). We're now using that laptop on Ethernet-over-mains, somewhat less convenient but totally solid (and Amazon have refunded the Wifi Dongle 🙂  )

Today I had an excellent conversation with one of the EE Guides (using their callback system which imho is a pretty good way of getting hold of them) and he agreed I'd already done pretty much everything I or EE could do, and will escalate this.

He indicated that any sort of routine firmware update is unlikely very soon, but that they are aware of these wifi problems, and implied (or maybe I read into it) that an update can sometimes be rolled out to fix specific problems.

So I think the best thing to move this forward positively is for everyone to report the problem to EE. Text GUIDE to 66033 and they will call you back in usually less than an hour.  The more who report, the stronger the case.

Before doing this it may speed things up if you do a Factory Reset on your router (under Advanced Settings / System) and then reconfigure it the way you had it before (e.g. turn Comp on, etc.) then check the issue is still there.  We pretty much know this reset does not work, but the support team do have a sequence they need to go through and a Factory Reset is one of those steps, so doing this before will speed things up.

Thanks everyone - fingers crossed.

@Pervs2 Can you answer this question below in case you missed it above.

Prior to this all happening June wise, how long had you been connected with everything and having ZERO issues off any kind at all.

Hi, I have been with EE for years and Ive never had issues with my connections.
I’ve had my first WIFI 6 plus router since March 2025 and it’s worked perfectly well and all my devices have connected without any issues.

Aprox 6-8 weeks ago I started experiencing connection problems with various devices around the home just disconnecting and unable to reconnect and saying incorrect password.
Mainly my ring devices and iPads and mobiles and gaming devices disconnecting.

I was then sent a new replacement router. Only difference is the new router has WPA3 personal transition setting, only router was WPA2 personal.
I’ve used the transition setting to allow for older WPA2 devices to connect.
however those that have struggled (some smart plugs) won’t even connect to the 2.4 compatible WiFi!!

I still have the same issues with the new router as I did my old router with connections dropping constantly and unable to reconnect. The network and line speed have been tested and are all working ok.

there must be an issue still with a bug in the new firmware update? I can’t think why else this is still happening. My home set up has not changed at all

@Pervs2 Ok getting there with it now, you have the new EE router on the system now, this is what i would do, get the note off your three variables required ie SSID/WiFi Password/Admin Password.... Do the Full Factory reset on it, once it has booted back up go set the three variables back into the Hub, at the same time enable the Compatible network and double check the WPA2-Personal is the wifi protocol for it.... Connect the Ring Doorbell to that ssid, think it adds a -comp to the end off the ssid....

This was done today. I received the new router 5 days ago and still had issues so someone from EE attended today and did exactly this.
however I have still had issues with devices dropping connection since he left. My doorbell has connected itself for now to my main network so it does work on there but I’m sure it will drop out again soon. iPads were not working after he left and were struggling to connect to the main network.
I already have comparable network turned on but my ring doorbell would not connect manually when I tried after the reset.

there has to be a bigger issue somewhere causing this

Are you EE technical support?

@Pervs2 If you want EE CS Technical support then you need to give EE CS a call, The Forum is not EE supported just user's like yourself.

Trust me I have done this numerous times! But I’m not getting any help in getting to the bottom of the issues.
it seems looking at the forum I’m not the only one having these issues!! I only reached out on here as someone may have an answer to these issues.

Hello, my problem is listening to radio stations (primarily Radio Caroline Flashback) via the internet then Bluetoothing onto a speaker.  I never had problems before but recently I have drop outs from the signal.  There is no problem with Bluetooth because I have songs and albums recorded on my phone and listern via Bluetooth onto the speakers.  There is never a problem doing this.

Any suggestions?

Hi, I don’t listen to radio stations myself so sorry I’m unable to advise on this. But our connection issues and drop outs could be linked?
do you have a smart plus 6 router also?

@Dave3051 What are you using to convert the wifi to bluetooth for the connection between the two devices and it's connection method between both?
