Hi
I'm looking to change from my BT 500 to EE 1GBIT. My BT contract isn't due to end until October 2024, if I change over to EE now will I have to pay the remaining bill from BT or does it just start over fresh with EE? Just worried that I'll get issued with large bill for the remainder of my contract with BT. Thanks

You should discuss this with BT. If they offer you a move from BT to EE themselves you won't need to pay any exit fees. If you just did it yourself you might have to pay them.

It's fine because they will do it as an upgrade, however you need to first go through BT otherwise they'll think your leaving for alternative provider and I received an early termination fee for this and it was a nuisance to sort out. You might even get a better offer than what is advertised on the EE website to new customers, so call BT on 150 from your BT home phone or 0800800150 if you do not have a phone plugged in/subscribe to a landline service.

Thanks, ended up doing it through my BT app, which then took me through to the EE site that showed my current plan and a selection of EE plans, selected the 1gb plan, which I think works out roughly £3 more a month than I'm paying now for my BT 500mbit plan. Just gotta wait for my new router now and then return my old BT one with the packaging they provide.

@ktan49 You have 60 day's to return the BT hub, so don't rush it until you are completely happy with the operation of your replacement router as both will work on the service....

@ktan49 Hope all goes well with the upgrade. However a word of caution, you may not get a new router.
There have been a few examples of people in similar circumstances not getting the latest EE router. Which could even be a blessing in disguise.
