Smart pro 7 wifi ext and ring camera

Hi all.

I have smart pro 7 with the latest wifi extender. The extender in placed to cover my back garden. I have 2 ring cameras in the garden, 1 closer to the house the other approx 12m from the extender. At night the furthest 1 drops signal. This also happens if I swap the cameras over eliminating the camera.

Any ideas appreciated.

Older or weaker devices may not be compatible with the default WiFi settings of EE Smart Hubs. Try setting up Compatible WiFi on the router under Advanced > Wireless Settings > Config > Compatible WiFi (it defaults to 2.4 GHz & WPA2) & connect your problematic 2.4 GHz devices to that.

To phone EE CS: Dial Freephone +44 800 079 8586 - Option 1 for Home Broadband & Home Phone or Option 2 for Mobile Phone & Mobile Broadband

ISPs: 1999: Freeserve 48K Dial-Up > 2005: Wanadoo 1 Meg BB > 2007: Orange 2 Meg BB > 2008: Orange 8 Meg LLU > 2010: Orange 16 Meg LLU > 2011: Orange 20 Meg WBC > 2014: EE 20 Meg WBC > 2020: EE 40 Meg FTTC > 2022:EE 80 Meg FTTC SoGEA > 2025 EE 150 Meg FTTP

I did think that but it works most of the time it just drops to a low signal in the early hours. Wasn't sure if the wifi signal gets reduced for any reason.

I use the cameras to capture wildlife at night mainly foxes at 3am. That's how I know it drops out.

I'll have to look at different cameras if compatibility is an issue.

@Chintzo You should be looking at the spec for the two ring camera's to see if they are WPA2-PSK and if so get them on the Comp network.

Ring device manuals

Thanks. I'll do that tomorrow. I guess the ssid will have to be different to the norm to eliminate any confusion.

As we speak they are ok.

Thanks.

@Chintzo System does it automatically, adds the -comp to the back of the ssid so you will see when you enable the feature.

You will have the main as it is and an additional for the comp feature.

If you are using the Ring app, then the RSSI value in the Device is what to look at, mine is currently on 49 but it is only 20' away from the nearest 2.4Ghz signal which is an Asus AP...

Done all that. Signal seems worse on the 2nd camera, reads 82. That's the one 12m away from the extender. Seperated by house wall and fresh air. Camera 1 reads 47 and is fine.

Weirdly now on the EE app the extender has a no signal icon. It also says it's online.

@Chintzo RSSI value is important and at 82 you are in the no go area, Since you also have the Pro version, then the Extender needs a good 6Ghz wireless wifi signal from the Pro hub unless you have it Ethernet connected.

Understanding wifi recommendations for Ring devices

Yes, the smart wireless extender should set it's self up also on the Comp network same as the Pro Hub does.... You may have to leave the smart wireless extender to sort itself out, there is not enough tools in the EE toolkit to see what they are doing at the best off times....

If it's not going to work, switch the comp off, and move your camera a little closer, see the link for the Ring RSSI values, it explains were it needs to be.

Looks like they aren't connecting to the extender box. They were before I changed the network. Do the settings transfer from the main box to the extender?
