Smart Wifi pro wired backhaul issues

Hi

I have my EE smart Wifi pro connected to my EE smart hub pro router via Cat6 but i am seeing the following issue, after a day or 2 speeds via the smart wifi pro drops to around 350-400 (I have 1000mb) from around 900-1000mb which suggests to me maybe the wifi pro device is losing its wired backhaul connection and falls back to a wifi backhaul connection.  If i power cycle the wifi pro it will be back to 900-1000mb again but within a dew days back down to 400 etc, i am using CAT6 cabling.

Unfortunately due to using the EE smart hub and wifi pro on my BT fibre connection it seems i cant see how the wifi pro is connecting, wifi backhaul of wired.

Anyone else had this issue? I can only guess that the cause is the cabling maybe however i have changed out the patch cables and never had an issue with my Deco XE75, always connected via wired at 2.5gb.

There's a few posts on the forums on this issue and it seems 50/50 that some people are having issues with going through an unmanaged switch (or 2). I can't see any real problems going through unmanaged switches but it's definitely happening to some people.

If you couldn't access your VPN server going through a switch but can wired and both are on the same subnet then either the switches or extender (or both) aren't playing nice.

Happens when using a managed switch also.

The EE WiFi pro is clearly the issue. Been running home networks for years and every once in a while you will get a device that clearly doesn’t want to play ball, in this case the EE wifi pro.

pretty **bleep** from EE IMO

@wenklaw Takes time to iron out all the wrinkles in the system!

I know you shouldn't be doing EEs job but if you have a spare modern-ish router, set it to AP mode and see if the same occurs.

Mate, you can’t use the EE WiFi pro without the EE smart hub pro router.

As I said I’m now testing the EE WiFi pro via a direct cable backhaul, if that degrades it’s going in the bin and I will buy a more reliable solution such as decos etc

Yup I'm saying connect any old router in place of your EE wifi pro. If that works fine then you know it's not the switches.

I know the switches are fine.  What’s your point?

No point. Sorry for trying. It's how I've been diagnosing network probs for decades with success, at work and at home.

I'll shut up now.

You’ll just have to wait for EE to release a FW update…knowing EE will still be months away yet😂

Or if you cant wait just invest in a third party setup to suit your needs that’ll be miles better than the EE junk anyway👍🏼

Problem is I have DV so need to use the EE router, yes I could buy another MESH system but that’s what I had before, was trying to rationalise by using the ee WiFi pro and it actually has a bloody good WiFi range far better than my deco XE75 pro did

It’s held up so far now it’s directly cabled and the switch is no longer in the equation.  We will see!
