Smart Wifi pro wired backhaul issues

Hi

I have my EE smart Wifi pro connected to my EE smart hub pro router via Cat6 but i am seeing the following issue, after a day or 2 speeds via the smart wifi pro drops to around 350-400 (I have 1000mb) from around 900-1000mb which suggests to me maybe the wifi pro device is losing its wired backhaul connection and falls back to a wifi backhaul connection.  If i power cycle the wifi pro it will be back to 900-1000mb again but within a dew days back down to 400 etc, i am using CAT6 cabling.

Unfortunately due to using the EE smart hub and wifi pro on my BT fibre connection it seems i cant see how the wifi pro is connecting, wifi backhaul of wired.

Anyone else had this issue? I can only guess that the cause is the cabling maybe however i have changed out the patch cables and never had an issue with my Deco XE75, always connected via wired at 2.5gb.

I assume you’re not using them as part of a wired backhaul to the EE WiFi pro though?

im just going to remove my 2.5gig unmanaged tp link and return to Amazon. It’s a bit of a pain reverting to a 1gig switch but I can live with it until EE sort it out.

No I'm connecting it to a tplink router (AP mode) and to my 10GbE setup. You can't go wrong with that hisource 4x2.5GbE for under £30.

If anything goes wrong with the SH wifi and wired is still working, I can just switch my tplink to router mode etc...

Might be a bug in the firmware which is similar to the Apple TV bug I have described here:

https://community.ee.co.uk/t5/Broadband-Landline/Apple-TV-connectivity-issues-with-Smart-Wifi-Pro/td...

It's definitely worth reporting the issue to EE customer services. Hopefully these bugs in the firmware can be ironed out.

I've done testing on my side, but I dont see a port 1 vs port 2 issue. I definitely think this is a firmware related issue.

Had a look at your thread and something is definitely wrong, the ee WiFi pro clearly has compatibility issues with certain devices when wired into either LAN port.  Going to stick with my 1gig managed switch that seems to be okay at holding full speeds on a wired backhaul until EE address the issue with hopefully an update

Woke up this morning to find the EE WiFi pros speed has degraded to 400mbps again, so unfortunately even my 1gig managed switch hasn’t rectified the issue although it did hold up for longer.  Going to direct cable the EE WiFi pro to the router via a coupler and see if it holds 1gig speeds.  If it doesnt it’s going in the bin where it belongs.

checked my managed switch and the port is still auto negotiating at 1000/full duplex.

EE advertise the junk as the fastest WiFi, jokers absolute jokers!!

Have you tried turning off the 2.4GHz band assuming all your devices support wifi 6e or better? 2.4GHz has the best range to fallback to though.

When it drops, has it dropped to the 2.4GHz band or is it still on 5/6GHZ? If it's still on 5/6 monitor the speed and walk towards the wifi pro.

Sorry mate I dont think you've understood what the issue is. Briefly, my EE wifi pro has a wired backhaul via a managed switch which over time degrades from 2.5gbps (or 1gbps as i have plugged in another switch to rule out a faulty switch) to 400mbps for any devices connecting to the EE wifi pro (on the 5ghz band).  Unplug the cable or restart the EE wifi pro and its back to full speed, the last time i had to do it was 6 days ago but can be as little as 24 hours.

I am now connecting direct from the EE wifi pro to the router albeit via a cat6 coupler and will see how that goes.

Well I’ve now cabled the EE WiFi pro directly(via a coupler) to the EE router and one thing has already changed, I can now connect to my hosted OpenVPN server from a device that’s connected to the EE WiFi pro, I couldn’t before so that’s weird because why should a managed or unmanaged switch prevent that? And it didn’t when I had my deco mesh and bt discs.

@wenklaw I remember reading somewhere in the settings that all EE Smart Wifi Pros are recommended to be all connected directly (via ethernet) to the EE Smart Hub Pro. They don't recommend going via a switch.

Personally I have followed that approach, but I am still experiencing some issues as I have detailed elsewhere. That said, it might explain your OpenVPN server issues.
