Smart WiFi SW40J is not giving 5Ghz or 6Ghz, only providing 2.4Ghz

Hi, I have my main router (Smart Hub SH40J) on the ground floor. On the 1st floor the wifi extender (SW40J). And on the 2nd floor the PS5 Pro.

On the PS5, when searching for WiFi on 2.4Ghz, it shows strong signal for my WiFi on the Wireless SSID list (as its showing the closer extender) and once connected to it, in the EE app it shows connected to the extender.

But When I search for WiFi connection on the 5Ghz or 6Ghz bandwidth, it shows poor signal on the WiFi list, and once connected to my WiFi, in the EE app it shows I'm connected to the main router.

I cant find any way to change the WiFi device it connects to in the app.

i’ve restarted everything, but it looks like the extender is not providing 5 or 6 Ghz bandwidth.

I cant find any way to change this.

can anyone help?

@Naz8520  Did you follow this process when connected up your Extender

Plug in ethernet cable to SW40J and router and wait for the solid turquoise light and leave it for a few minutes

power down (and take the power cable out of) the SW40J extender, so it connects to the WIFI and leave it for a few minutes

power down (and take the power cable out of) the SH40J extender

power down (and take the power cable out of) the SH40J hub

wait for 10-20s to enable the hub's RAM to clear before powering the hub back up and wait for solid turquoise light

when the hub shows solid turquoise, power up the extender in its desired location and leave for a few minutes.

hi,

I followed the instructions to set it up. As it wasn’t working i reset it and followed the process on the EE app. it was pretty much the same as your process but without a network cable, instead making use of the WPS button.

still nothing.

@Naz8520  Connect it with a network cable and leave it on for 24 hours to update etc

@Naz8520 - Does it help if you fiddle with the band selection options in the PS5 menu e.g. try explicitly selecting 5GHz rather than auto etc. This video points you in the right direction for the menus.

I'm starting to see a bit of noise across the Internet regarding Wi-Fi connectivity/performance on these new Playstations, particularly where 6GHz/Wi-Fi 7 is concerned. I wonder if there are some teething issues 🤔

You can probably download a Wi-Fi scanning app that will tell you for certain if the extender is broadcasting a 5/6GHz signal e.g. for Android, this is a good option.
