Smart Pro Major Issues

Hoping someone has some pearls of wisdom here?

I recently moved from BT FTTP 500MB. Had bought whole home discs to provide necessary coverage, some running cat5 cable and NEVER had issues. Connection was good, frequently getting +400mbps on PS5 and +300mbps on my sons PS5.

Now have EE smart pro wifi7 hub and extender. 1Gb FTTP. Gaming is impossible, not wired so appreciate that will have an impact but speeds are a joke 93.7mbps download and 85.7 up! Games are laggy as hell, unplayable and we frequently have issues elsewhere (wife and I both work at home so always have laptops on - they are poor also).

No. connected devices usually between 30-40.

Any ideas how I can solve issues without having to resort to putting my own hardware directly into ONT?

TIA

@DialupDan How many disk's for the whole home did you have compared to the Pro and it's smart wireless. They are not apples to apples, and the 6Ghz wireless backhaul is not working out for a Pro/SW setup! If you could cable between the Pro/SW you may get a far better speed in operation!

@DialupDan - what model/colour discs, and what hub were you using before? Do you still have any of this equipment?

Must admit, I'm scratching my head a little. It sounds like you have gone from using multiple WiFi extenders (some using wired backhaul) to a setup with just a single extender (now using wireless backhaul) - and are seemingly surpirsed that the Wi-Fi performance/coverage has deterorated - that sounds entirely expected to me - or am I missing something?  🤔

Hi Jim,

Had 5 discs in total on whole home.
Perhaps my expectations were misplaced. I figured, wrongly by the sounds of it, that newer tech (WiFi 7) and a faster speed would deliver at least equal to the old tech and slower speed.

Discs were white and yes still have them. Told by EE they won’t work with smart pro so haven’t tried.

I figured newer tech and faster speeds would translate to at least equal performance of old. Evidently not!!

Running cable isnt feasible atm so I’m going to try third party hardware I think. Disappointing though given the claims of EE who suggest multiple device gaming possible which it absolutely is not.

should have stayed with BT. We live and learn.

@DialupDan Although the BT Complete Home disc's are supposed to work with any ISP Router, it has been reported on the Forum when used with the EE Smarthub+ they looked ok but would always fall over and not work correctly causing major problems with the unit and getting the EE Smart Wireless extenders was the only option.

There is nothing to stop you trying them and setting them up, see what happens when you connect and if they do cause problems just pack them away again. At least you have the heads up to watch what transpires with then!

As tech get's newer it's always possible that something just does not work correctly!

No, or at least you are mixing the names up. The black BT Complete WiFi discs don't work with any router. It's only the white BT "High St." Whole Home discs that are supposed to.

With your package you can get the other two Pro smart wireless unit's, not going to match your five from previous but worth the try to see how it all goes! Your paying for them so go with it and ask for the other two.

Not sure how many nodes you can add to a Pro mesh but don't think it's going to get up to the 8 that are allowed with the whole home side! You will more than likely need the EE app to be working reasonably well as mesh is kind off tied a little and not separate like the older ones!
