Slow speed on new 990mbps package. Could cable be damaged?

Hi. I just had Openreach install my new line for the 990mpbs package. Speed is rubbish. After the first day which was close to the correct Speed, it now fluctuates between 60 - 990.

I noticed that a car drove over the cable while the engineer was installing. Could that have caused the Speed issues?

Any suggestions welcome. I will give EE a chance to sort this out before I cancel.

Thanks

Welcome to EE's Home Broadband Forum.

Try a speedtest, preferably wired using an Ethernet cable supplied with the router, here http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest.html . Click on the "Results Page" button at the bottom of the graph you first see and then copy to here just the "Link to this result:" link that you see below the next main graph.

If you think I helped please feel free to hit the "Thumbs Up" button below.

It’s possible.  The trouble with fibre is that it has a number of points where it can throw up a problem if the job isn’t done correctly.  The connections are very susceptible to light loss.  If it's bends too tightly.  If the splice at the CSP wasn’t done well. If he didn’t clean the plug before he attached to the ONT etc.  By rights, the engineer should have checked the light levels before he left.

Not moved the cable going into the ONT have you?  As I said, bending too sharply can cut off the light.

Hi thanks I will try that.

The results using my mobile are

@ddemolder Take it that you are only using a wireless wi-fi connected device for your speed testing?

Yes just wireless as that is what we use on all devices so is the only metric that counts. It's a big fluctuation in speed.

@ddemolder So what is your setup, EE Router model and any extenders/mesh involved?

Hi Jim

Just a standard EE router, nothing else.
