Does anyone know what SMB protocol EE Routers use please?
I have an EE Smart Router.
I used to play my music library via a separate hard drive plugged into the USB port on the back of my router. This then gave me access to play 000's of songs via sonos.....frustratingly, it no longer works.
I understand that because of security issues for smb1 , sonos along with many others don't allow their stuff to run with this. I'm trying to rule in/out if this may be the issue.
As an addition, does anyone know if any of the EE Routers use smb2 or above?
Thank you

@GKfinsup : EE routers' USB ports , for those that have working 1s, conform to SMB 1.0.
You do have the white EE Smart Router?

Hi
Yes, the white one
Are they all old tech then?
Thanks

EE's USB software must be. They all seem to be based on the same tech. The latest EE router, the EE SH+, doesn't even have a usable USB port that the user can use.
Didn't you say it worked on a previous EE router? If so, it should be the same.

Yes on all previous ee Routers including this one.
I believe smb1 has been identified as a security risk for over 10 years. Windows disabled it by default (since 2014)
So the change has come I think with sonos joining others in not using smb1. The solution is likely either using a router that uses smb2 or above or finding a workaround.
Upgrading to smb2 etc doesn't sound like a priority (or even on the radar) for EE etc

@GKfinsup And you can re-enable in widows if you require to do so, just letting you know. If sonos is your issue then you will have to look to see what other protocol's that it support's, it may have a usb port also that you can directly play your music from and that may be worth looking at. Router makes it easier to distribute but other devices can do so also. HTH

Yes, I've tried re-enabling it in windows 11 but Sonos still can't see it....proper frustrating!

@GKfinsup Take a look at this in case it gives you any ideas, do not use sonos but do have bose, also using smb 1 on windows 11 and connection, just checked working fine playing on pc no problem also. edit and sonos still recommend smb 1 as far as i can see.

Thanks Jim
I think the issues for everyone only started after the latest app/desktop update in May this year. So the article was spot on before that.

I am in the same boat as GKFinSup.
Sonos stopped supporting SMB v.1 with Apple & Android versions released on 13th May 2024. See alert here:
https://support.sonos.com/en-au/article/release-notes-for-sonos-software-updates
I proved to myself that it was the issue by rolling back to an earlier Android version and it worked again. Likewise I installed SMB v. 2 & 3 and re-tested with latest Android app without success. Its frustrating that there is no error trapping to help users understand the cause of this issue.
Plugging a USB stick in the back of the EE Smart Router (mine is only a few months old) was a solution that used no extra power, so was ideal for me.
I called the EE helpdesk and was told that the USB port is only designed for maintenance use, and in effect it was not supported for users.
