You don't choose anything! You just read off the fastest. But you've already got you want! You have a 1 Gig (=1000 Meg) Ethernet adapter.

you said it was the bright box causing it to max out at 100mbps, so if i did the above tasks without the brightbox inline would it say 1GB/1GB receive/ transmit?  thanks

That's right! You're only going here to read it off.

Yes, with a router with a faster Ethernet you would see Link Speed (Receive/Transmit): 1000/1000 (Mbps) on the Settings > Network Status > Properties page. That's why you leave this at Auto Negotiate.

Yes i get that, whatever router is inline the receive/transmit will change.. I'm still unsure what speeds i'd need, from what i have now, i see your 150meg, that would prob do me however unsure for future & also Intel i5 8gb pc with expendable RAM. I'm unsure but think i've asked enough from you all tonight.

@gazmix_1973 Say what model on the Dell label you have for that optiplex, i will go look to see if FW update to the TPM allows you to go win 11.

@JimM11 Optiplex 3020 ... It is quite noisy even now with multiple tabs on browser.. Thanks

@gazmix_1973 Think it's way outside your scope off expertise to do it, so best you just upgrade to a later model!

@JimM11 : Upgradability to W11 is determined by the h/ware, not the f/ware or s/ware.

Yeh well i'd prob agree. It's making a fan noise now with 10 tabs open. I won't be getting another Optiplex as they old & i'm wanting something to last..I've seen an All in one pc with intel i5 8gb RAM with option to expand if i need but unsure if i need to for what i use pc for. i3 may even be adequate but i'm thinking ahead.

At least now i can get it and work with this old router until i get FF done.

I'm thinking of getting the pc whilst still available, using the optiplex for as long as possible with the FF & then nearer time ESU stops then start using the new pc.. Or just start using new pc.  Just i hate to stop using this pc whilst still working ok..   I'll get there soon  once get all sorted soon.. Thanks
