Re: EE Broadband keeps dropping out

I hope you can help us XRaySpeX, we've been with EE a while and had issues with dropping out with our BrightBox, before we renewed we sought assurances this would be fixed and they sent us their latest Smart Hub - their systems guy tweaked some settings and it appeared to be fine, now after 10 days away it's worse than ever - this dropping does not appear to show on the Smart Hub lights (unless we don't see it happen) but it does show on the Alexa's, buffering on the TV, disconnections when I'm working from home, etc - hope this reveals something for us...

@Bsmart : All your results are fine & show no sign of issues.

Have a look on the Advanced Settings > Technical Log > Event Log page for events like "DSL Down/Up" & "Authentication Successful".

Locate the hidden test socket that is revealed when you remove the bottom half of the split faceplate (2 screws or press tabs) of your master socket. Only do this if you have a split faceplate. Do you have any extension sockets in the home even if unused? Are there any wires connected to back of faceplate of master socket?

Try the BT Quiet Line Test (QLT), dial 17070 Opt 2, preferably with a corded phone, in the test socket with the router disconnected. If there is any noise, report it to your landline provider as a voice fault (don't mention Broadband). Often sorting out voice faults will fix the Broadband as well.

Reboot the router & plug it into the test socket. Post the full router stats & System Uptime when plugged into test socket.

Is the issue any better?

I've removed the split plate but there is not a test socket.  No extention sockets or unused wiring.  No wires connected to master faceplate.  The BT Quite Line Test has a very faint buzz - is this normal?

The event log, from this morning, shows this (can post full report if it helps) ....

First group search of DSL and second part search for authentication successful - does this throw any light on it?  Interestingly we were away where there is a gap between 13 Aug and 27th Aug so does that imply it's a device issue and if so how do we best find it?

  1. If there is no test socket, that is not a master socket (not recommended) & there wouldn't be a split faceplate. Post images of it outside & in so we can ID it.
  2. Aren't there times in the log so we can assess the frequency?

There's the test socket on the back box on R as you look at it.
