Openreach installing FTTC when FTTP is available

Hi

I've not gotten round to updating my copper broadband for family health reasons but had Openreach email saying they coming round to update digital phone & putting me on core 67 which is FTTC even though full fibre is on my street. I will receive my smart hub plus & phone adaptor shortly.  

They say i have a fortnight to change mind, not sure what that means as won't be going back to copper but just wondered if FTTC will still work ok after the switch off in January?  I guess they wouldn't be doing it if it didn't. i Should've just ordered FTTP but as said i haven't . I guess i'll get this done & upgrade after.. I didn't think if FF was available on my street they would do FTTC.

Yes, I sorta figured out that box on L on green carpet was a DSL filter. So you have 2 of those, this 1 on the router side & another downstairs on the phone side. When DV comes you won't need the 1 downstairs as the phone will no longer be plugged into the phone socket.

Why is DSL filter on the L on green carpet needed? The connector on R on green carpet would seem to be just a BT Phone plug to RJ11 converter which is what the DSL filter is doing.

@XRaySpeX i wondered why you said 2 boxes, i thought you'd def know the filter which you do. 

I'm not sure, the BT phone plug is what comes upstairs, it's been there years. The grey broadband cable that goes from the current Bright Box doesn't go in to that so a filter is there to bridge the gap. 

Yes the one downstairs won't be needed so the splitter can be eradicated & BB cable goes straight into master socket.

I still don't follow. In the green carpet pix there are 2 boxes, bits of kit, things whatever you like to call them. We've established the 1 on the L is a DSL filter, but what is the small 1 on the R?

@XRaySpeX The green carpet picture has one ADSL filter because off the RJ11 connection only, the other end is just the flying lead socket off his Extension cable from the downstairs connection.

As indicated looks like you can go for the swap over off the old EE Brightbox and start using the new EE Smart Hub 6 Plus, but you are going to have to set the SSID / wifi Password to match your old BrightBox one, if there is an Admin Password for the BrightBox i would do that also to change on your EE one matching all 3 items.... https://192.168.1.254 for sure on the 6+ version not sure if the older is also the same ID but will be http instead of https on that.

Go for it, any issues you can easily connect the BrightBox back on the connection.

@JimM11 : Default URL for Brightbox is http://192.168.1.1 but sure OP knows that.

@XRaySpeX Thanks, at least the scope is similar so @gazmix_1973 you should have no real issues, 

http://192.168.1.1 for the old Brightbox.

https://192.168.1.254 for the new EE Smart Hub 6 Plus.

Ethernet should be zero connection problems, hopefully all your wireless wifi devices just play nice on the new Hub.

@JimM11 yes I'll have to change the password on my phone to link up with the smart hub. The rest went over my head.

@XRaySpeX As a user off both types i think, is the wifi range about the same for a BrightBox as compared to the EE 6+, do not care about the wifi types as an Network Engineer i fully know how it all works.
