Hi sorry if this has been asked before.
In the very near future I will be switching over to a new fibre connection. In the meantime I want to make sure my living room is prepared but unsure of how things will be set up when the time comes. Apologies for the roughness of my diagram haha.
Basically the green X is where my phoneline comes in so naturally this is where the ONT box would be fitted in place of the BT socket. However there are no electrical points on this side of the living room to power it. I would not trust a dedicated 5m+ power extension cable to constantly power it.
The 2 blue X points are the nearest spots where the ONT box can be powered, 5m and (ideally) 8-10m away, the EE router would be right next to it with a very short direct link. I'm hoping to find out please if the engineer would feed a much longer optical cable from the new junction box outside to the desired location inside?
Sorry again about the messiness of my question but rather start pulling my hair out now in preparation instead of the day it is finally set up.
Cheers 🙂

@Yeando Your picture will take time to be cleared for viewing, in the meantime, understanding installer or there contractor, fibre is delicate, no sharp bends on the fibre cable internal run, and double power socket ONT/Router, if you are happy that everything else is covered with sending the wireless signal through out the property. Will view when available.
Edit: only the one corner to watch out for, and if the installer and you can agree to what is acceptable, if like me you cannot agree, then cancel and re-schedule, my wait is currently 21 day's now from original date!

Hi,
The ONT can go where ever you want, doesn’t need to go where your phone line comes in. I have my ONT in my home office upstairs (plugged into an extension lead), I’ve an ethernet cable from that box (upstairs) to the router downstairs. The router is plugged into an extension lead. All works an expected, with great speeds.
Just agree with the engineer where you want your ONT. Any issues and I’m sure they’ll be able advise on the day.
Hope it goes well.

Excellent. Hopefully the setup will be easy enough. Its not much of a distance and I can add suitable trunking on the skirting which wont be too bad for the corners of the room.
Thanks.

@Yeando You did see the part NO SHARP BENDS for the fibre internal, there is a minimum bend radius and the installer will decide wither he likes or does not, you are not making a 90 degree turn with a nice tight bend that's for sure.... So hang of on the trunking or have it available to quickly do, and discuss that as one of the first points, while the installer is getting ready and he agrees, then you can get the trunking in place for your ONT position....

@Yeando if you have not already watched it, this Help page from Openreach will give you a better idea of what is involved. Much will depend on the engineer on the day, and how feasible your request is, hot drinks and choccy biscuits have been known to help!
