More on IPv6 and Hub 7+

Although it's hard to be certain about what's going on, I've noticed the following a couple of times -

After 5-6 days of the hub left running, when a PC is next started it's no longer given an IPv6 address / DNS  - as can be seen in Windows network info or an IPv6 test website or the hub info for the PC device.

Strangely just viewing the address table in Advanced -> My Network in the hub dashboard seems to trigger the PC getting IPv6 - as does togging Allocation mode off and on  - but these seem to be temporary as next time the PC starts it again got no IPv6

A more permanent fix was to restart the hub - but  5-6 days or so later I noticed the issue happening again - plus every hub restart is somewhat disruptive and turns main WiFi back on.

---

The overall IPv6 situation is confusing with the hub saying "IPv6 network status: Disabled" and "DNS: IPv4 only"  which was mentioned last year in  https://community.ee.co.uk/t5/Broadband-Landline/Smart-Hub-Pro-and-IPV6/td-p/1527624

I've still not had the r4.27.1 firmware listed as 'From May' which mentions "New - IPv6 DNS" in case that's at all relevant - but this is another disappointment with the hub.

@jak26 Not a huge AP fan, to many things get dropped when not routing!

Switching from an older Access Point (a router in AP mode) to a new Asus (tri-band, WiFi 7, 2.5Gb/s sockets, on offer recently) has  - so far anyway - restored PC Internet connect time with no flashing network icon on restarts and wakes.

I prefer to keep the ISP router attached to ONT but wired to an AP sitting closer to devices - delivering LAN sockets and strong WIFI without the issues many post about. If the new AP hadn't worked other work-arounds to try were - reducing the DHCP lease time to get more IP refreshes or running this command at startup -

ipconfig /release ethernet; ipconfig /renew ethernet

---

However the  hub 7+ still has issues. It's always sluggish opening screens and there's a real delay between saving changes and the WIFI updating to match. To arrange things after swapping AP, I tried to make some changes on the  hub's Main and Compatible WIFI pages but the hub became increasingly confused, crashed, restarted, but corrupted so I couldn't get WIFI working again - so I had to Factory Reset the hub, taking care to then make only minimal changes.

---

Although IPv6 is working, after that hub Factory Reset there are observations - the setting "IPv6 network status:" is now showing as Enabled instead of Disabled as before. The number of IPv6 addresses listed for the PC still accumulates. Multiple IPv6 addresses (i.e. more than 2) can also be seen in Windows - but don't all match those reported by the hub.

---

Still waiting for the new hub 7+ f/w mentioned above. In general a gradual roll-out is good - but given it's so hard to view the released product state of the hub 7+ positively please don't delay fixes any longer.

@jak26 Not at all sure were the FW is going to end up on the 7+ EE Hub you have, think @bobpullen has spotted, and reported it back to EE with the restart option wifi switching itself back on, just another one to be added to the list, wheels turn very slowly with the FW etc, but a little surprised that the EE Web manager is just not that bit quicker on the 7+, was reported on the 6+ that the logging slowed that sucker down, it sure did got to about 80 day's up and from a few seconds connect was + more than 10 seconds near the end, unfortunately EE FW updated wiped it all out and back to the start again, just gave up and moved, one of the camel back straws enough was enough!

With 4.27.1 on 7+ the app version is 3.14.5.

The f/w was pushed soon after the post https://community.ee.co.uk/t5/Broadband-Landline/EE-Hub-firmware-versions/td-p/1624543 was updated to show  r4.27.1 as "Current firmware version" so I think you can say that whenever that table is updated a device rollout has started.

As I mentioned in https://community.ee.co.uk/t5/Broadband-Landline/Hub-7-WiFi-turns-itself-back-on/m-p/1627988/highlig... I didn't see any benefit with 4.27.1 - for example it still says

"DNS: IPv4 only"

 "IPv6 network status: Disabled"

even though it works OK

I only use 2.4 compatible with the Hub plus a combination of wired LAN and a new Asus tri-band Access Point so I don't get the WIFI and speed issues many post about.

I have just moved to EE from PlusNet due to keeping digital voice, so have to use their router instead of my previous ASUS one.

I am experiencing a problem with DNS resolution and it turns out the EE smart hub only partially implements IPv6! It gives out IPv6 addresses and seems to advertise itself as an IPv6 DNS server but doesn't listen, only on IPv4, so DNS resolution on IPv6 (favoured by Windows) fails.

Why oh why would anyone roll out this debarkle? I have had to disable IPv6 to get it to work at all.

I have also noticed there is no way to check for firmware updates, and very little control of what is going on.

App version: 3.14.5
Firmware version: r4.26.3-R-1923144-PROD-83002

Consult EE Hub firmware versions to check where your vers. is at.

Thanks. I don't know which model I have as it doesn't seem to show in the admin interface, but in the top two they have the same firmware level as mine so probably one of those. And it is still not fixed.

The point is it was shipped like this and it is not actually able to work with IPv6 so why have it enabled? Not a great introduction to EE when they can't get the basics right...

Just read off the SH3?? model no. on the label on the bottom.

@DougChandler Copper connection that i think you may have as you have pushed the Asus aside, then good chance you have the SH31B version off the EE Hub. Link below to them all.
