Is my hub broken?

I am still suffering with latency spikes as seen from my previous post, however they are becoming much worse now.

I wanted to see if connecting my Xbox to my router via ethernet would stop these spikes from happening at all. I took my Xbox and ethernet cable and plugged them in and connected the ethernet cable to the hub. At first, nothing happened and my Xbox didn't go online. Around 5 minutes later, the Xbox connected to the network however nothing loaded and then eventually I got put offline again. This Xbox has no issues at all with connecting to ethernet as I connected to my repeater around 20 minutes prior. I left the Xbox for around 15-20 minutes and it would randomly go online and then would go back offline. I tried different ethernet ports on the hub however it didn't make a difference. I have come to the conclusion that the hub's ethernet ports may be dodgy.

I have struggled with this latency from when I first went with EE and it is now becoming much worse. I have ran the command "ping 1.1.1.1 -t" on Windows 11 terminal as an administrator and I would often time out or get pings that took 2-3 whole seconds.

Please can somebody help me with this, it is really getting on my nerves as it is now getting the point I can't even call my friends on Xbox or on PC (PC is wired to a repeater, I am unable to set it up where I can wire it to my hub), I can't play any PvP games as I am at a huge disadvantage as I get teleported around and often lag out of the games.

Any advice is appreciated, I just really want this issue gone. Thank you.

@ROVER6 What router do you have? what BB service do you have? what make/model of repeater do you have?

Repeater/extender:

TP-Link N300 Universal Range Extender, Broadband/Wi-Fi Extender, Wi-Fi Booster/Hotspot with 1 Ethernet Port and 2 External Antennas, Plug and Play, Built-In Access Point Mode, UK Plug (TL-WA855RE)

Router: Smart Hub Plus

Broadband: 51mbp/s plan (EE) - I don't have the exact name of the plan but I hope this helps.

Even ignoring the XBox those are very slow pings to 1.1.1.1 anyway. I get 9ms consistently from a PC.

It must be your WAP that is slowing both PC & XBox down.

If you think I helped please feel free to hit the "Thumbs Up" button below.

@ROVER6 Use PC to web to router http://192.168.1.254 will bring up manager page, click on the status box, do screen capture and post up the picture from it, will go look at your tp-link spec just now.

How far is your RE from the router, how many walls does it have to get through before it gets to the router, you could not possibly have got the worst TP-Link for the function that you are trying to over come. The spec is so poor on it that you may find it helps. Do you have any other ethernet cables apart from the one that came with the tp-link?

The repeater is approximately behind 4-5 walls before it reaches the router.

Note: I have never had issues  with this repeater before and it has worked perfectly fine for me. It just doesn't fix my latency issue though. Every device on the network and repeater has latency, the repeater just increases the speeds in areas of my home.

Also, yes I have 2 cat5e cables, I have tried both but there is no difference.

When I did them pings, I was connected to the actual router via Wi-Fi. However there is no difference when I ping 1.1.1.1 with ethernet on the repeater.

Which WAP? The hub itself or the repeater I have? Not all devices are on the repeater, some are directly connected to the router and I still get high latency spikes.

@ROVER6 Have you tried turning off the repeater, then at the router with whatever you are using as your wireless device running the ping again, and what kind of result do you get from that? The WAP is your TP-Link, but you probably have it in repeater mode, unless you set it to AP mode.

Just gave it a go. My PC has recently been acting up so I just went on Termux on my android device which is connected directly to the router. I'm pinging 1.1.1.1 from Termux and I am getting all sorts of times, ranging from 26ms to 120ms and then big spikes to 330ms. The spikes seem to be in sync with the repeater. I've tried it with the repeater off and the repeater on and there's no difference. When I say they are in sync, I have my Xbox connected to the repeater and my phone connected directly to the router; I am currently in an Xbox party and on my phone the time increases when my friend's voices cut out due to my latency issue.

Also I have no clue what mode the WAP is in as I have forgotten the IP to the repeater.

@ROVER6 Your status screen looks like you are fine router speed wise and sync and been up 4 days since you last switched it off, when you look at the wireless do you see the EE ssid, and also for the TP-Link do you have the same ssid but with a _ext after it? What we are trying to establish is if this is a wireless interrupt that is causing your ping response, or the router itself not able to service what you are doing, just because the tp worked fine with your VM router, it does not mean that it plays nice with the EE. In the hub manager, My network you should be able to find the IP of the TP-Link device, then you can also web to it when you know the IP and have a look at it.

Your cat5e cables will make zero difference on the TP-Link extender it only has a 10/100mb ethernet interface on it....
