How to Set Up Port Forwarding on Flint 2 for Slate Plus as Travel Router?

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to set up port forwarding on my Flint 2 router and I’m completely lost. My goal is to keep the Flint 2 at home and use a GL-1300 Slate Plus as my travel router so I can access my home network remotely while abroad.

Here’s the issue:

In EE’s router settings, the port forwarding section is asking for fields I haven't seen in any tutorial, like:

External Ports with Start and End

Internal Ports with Start and End

I honestly have no idea what I’m supposed to enter in each of those fields.

Do I need to enter the same number in all four boxes: 51820 (default WireGuard port)?

Also, it’s asking me to assign a static IP to the Flint 2 — and I’m unsure if that means setting it on the router itself or somewhere else.

If anyone has done this setup (Flint 2 + Slate Plus, EE UK), I would be super grateful for any tips or screenshots. This is for remote access while I’m traveling, and I’d really like to get it working before I go.

Thanks in advance!

It's unclear what you are trying to do. Port Forwarding is opening ports on a device connected to your home router. so you can connect to it remotely. So what is the GL-MT6000 you have entered as the local device & where does it fit in with the other 2 bits of kit you mention,  GL-1300 Slate Plus & Flint 2?

Yes, indeed, if port 51820 is the port you want to open you can enter it in all 4 places but you could choose any no. as the External port so that you could address it externally at your convenience. Say 51820 is the port of your local device you want to open but you prefer to refer to it as 99 externally, then you enter 99, 99, 51820, 51820. It's just a mapping of 2 port ranges.

What is telling you to assign a static IP? What have you been told about the ports that need opening of the GL-MT6000?

If you think I helped please feel free to hit the "Thumbs Up" button below.

@Elena261  - how is the Flint 2 connected to the EE hub/via what ports etc? I also assume you have already configured Wireguard on the Flint?

What is the IP address of the Flint? This is the address you use to access the GL.iNet interface of the Flint. It probably needs changing to something within the same subnet as the EE hub if it isn't already e.g. 192.168.1.10. Alternatively, you could have the EE hub assign the Flint an IP address automatically and then navigate to Advanced > My Network > Select Flint from the list of connected devices, toggle the 'Always use this IP adddress' option on and then save.

In the port forwarding section, you need to either select the Flint from the target drop-down, or click the 'Show IP address' button and manually enter the IP address of the Flint.

The external/internal ports can all be the same. They should be whatever port you have configured the Wireguard service on. Assuming default settings, then it would be 51820 in all fields and you only need select UDP as the protocol.

Edit: As an aside, I assume you do not have Full Fibre? If you do, then is there any reason you're not using the Flint in isolation, without the EE hub?
