EE WiFi 7 Pro Ethernet Backhaul

Does anyone know how to set up ethernet backhaul with the smart WiFi pro?

You're so right Jim. Rewired lots of stuff today and the old CAT5E cable works just fine if I go direct from Hub Pro to the extender. Will not work through a switch though! So my plan is to rund CAT7 across the attic to each extender from the Hub Pro, then try a dumb switch (2.5G) I got from Amazon today. If the switch doesn't work then I'll have to plug my 3 extenders in directly to the switch ports on the Hub Pro. Which of course gives me a new issue in as much as the Hybrid Connect will take the only remaining port. This leaves no uplink for my main switch with all my kit on it. So, a switch on the Hybrid Connect will be the next challenge. I have to say, the whole exercise of moving from Virgin Media (faster, modem mode and more standards based) has been an utter nightmare. I was paying £32 a month and getting 1.8GB consistently, now I'm paying £64 a month and have nothing but hassle, no VLANs, cannot extend the guest network, no extra SSID's - become an absolute mess! I really think EE need to bite the bullet and just allow people to run their own networks. After waiting years for FTTH, i'm struggling to see any benefit whatsoever! Anyway, rant over. Just hope they loosen up on the "control" they have and deliver a viable service to their customers. But hen, I guess there would be no fiddling and excitement!?

@MukeMan Hybrid connect will NOT have a 2.5Gb/s port, that's for sure more than likely just a 1Gb/s, and lot slower speed on 4G, hope you read the document as to what it does when back up kicks in and what you lose operational wise.

That's why the ISP supplied router is so tied down, you would have been way better using your own with the requirements that you needed for a router.

I've been having similar issues with my ethernet backhaul too.

The Web interface speeds do not correlate with speeds I can achieve from the extenders. 

My main problem is the extenders appear to reduce speed at random when wired in. Pull the ethernet cable out and back in again and it'll reconnect at 2.5gbps. Random amount of time later, test speeds again at the extender and we're down to 300-400mbps.

The wired backhaul is not very reliable. Overall, I'm quite disappointed with my EE Wi-Fi 7 units after 6 months of using them.

My backhaul shows unusual information in that I have three extenders directly connected to the hub via ethernet at 2.5G but it reports that Extender1  and Extender 2 are connected to the hub at Ethernet 1000 Mbps and Extender 3 is connected to Extender1 at Ethernet 2.5GbE. If I put a switch in between any of the extenders and the hub the switch operates at 2.5G transmission but the hub still shows 1000Mbps.

I get exactly the same conditions,  I see 2.5gbps transfers via anything connected to the WiFi pro for a few days then it degrades to 300-400 (sometimes as high as 500mbps), reset the wifi pro or unplug and plug back in the wired lan and back to full speeds.  I have CAT6 internal cabling through a 2.5gbps unmanaged tp link switch.

Hi all.

I have the ee smart wifi pro router. With FTTP 

I also have 2 of the smart wifi pro extenders.

I want to run a backhaul from the router via ethernet to each smart wifi pro.

I have 2 x 2.5gb unmanaged 5 port switches.

Can i connect the switch to the rojter via the 2.5gb port on the router.

Then connect each eghernet cable for each wifi extender.

Anf leave the ethernet cables in perm.

Question.

Will the 2 wifi extenders connect automatically or will i meed to pair them with the hub via WPS button

You don’t need to use WPS if you’re using a wired backhaul, the ee wifi pro will just pair when you plug up via the CAT cable.

you may experience problems using the ee WiFi pro via a wired backhaul in terms of degradation of throughput, mine worked just at half the speed it should have, if that’s not an issue then a wired backhaul is fine.   It’s all on this thread and others.

Well i need help ive reset the smart wifi pro extener,and connected it to the smart hub pro.

After connected via ethernet i went inyo the app and added the extener.

I didnt press wps.

Its now connected,but it sats connection type wifi

Shouldnt it say ethernet? Not wifi for connection type

It should but as I recall it doesn’t.  You should be able to see if it’s using a wired backhaul if you check the Hubs ports via the GUI. 
If you want things to look and appear correctly using a wired backhaul won’t do that, I’m a bit OCD and couldn’t stand the fact the devices didn’t show as they should.  You are fighting a losing battle mate. If you want something that actually works as it should and shows as it should you need to buy another MESH system
