EE Broadband capped when actually downloading?!?!

I recently changed to EE broadband(Fibre 67 as full fibre is not in the area yet)

Before I changed I asked if it was a capped download when downloading games due to my then internet (Talk Talk) at the time capping download speeds to 4-5mb when downloading a game but speed tests always showed 70+mbps.

The man said I would get the full 67+mbps when downloading games, streaming etc and said that my previous supplier was limiting it but EE is not like that. I spent a good 5 minutes making sure he understood what I meant by a download cap with games and he confirmed what I was on about and said "You will download games a 60mbps and much quicker"

Well I guess he was a big fat liar. The speeds are worse than my previous supplier. Speed tests showing 40mbps with a direct cable plugged in, Tried upgraded cables etc and no different. However when they "Run a test" theirs shows 60+ mbps.

Is there anything I can do to get any compensation or the full speed when downloading. In a world where games are 70-100gb now I really dont want to wait 8-10 hours to download games.

Cheers in advance...

@DarrenP89  Have you ran a speed test yourself via the EE app ?  Your game download can also be hindered y the server you’re downloading from.  If that server is being hammered this will effect your download speed.

To contact EE Customer Services dial 150 From your EE mobile or 0800 956 6000 from any other phone.

@DarrenP89 You may wish to have a look at the EE Router setting's in status with the web manager, it will show you what the router has synced at on your connection for the up/down speed's, whatever the value is at then you will not get anything quicker than that, speed test's are only a guidance as they push very little data through the testing, once you get on the server for trying to download then as @Chris_B has pointed out, you are dependent on what is available for it pushing out the speed to your device.

Even on a 1gb/s connection if the server is busy then speed can fall dramatically.!

Welcome to EE's Home Broadband Forum.

When downloading a file or game its speed is usually measured in MegaBytes/sec (MBps) while BB speeds are quoted in Megabits/sec (Mbps). There's a factor of 8 between the two. Are you sure you are comparing like-for-like?

If you would like help with your BB speed or connection issues, please would you carry out the following steps for starters, which will enable us to diagnose the problem and advise you further. Do not restart your router to do these tests:

1. Post your full router stats:

  • For a SmartHub: login and go to Advanced Settings > Technical Log > Information. Obscure your names & any numbers in the BB Username & also the SSIDs. Also post the Home > Status page.
  • For a BrightBox: login and go to Advanced Settings > System > DSL Status. Also post 'System Uptime' from top of System Log page.
  • For other routers: login to it according to the label on it as the admin user & navigate looking for its router/connection statistics.

Full router stats are key to any speed & connection issues.

2. Try a speedtest, preferably wired using an Ethernet cable supplied with the router, here http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest.html . Click on the "Results Page" button at the bottom of the graph you first see and then copy to here just the "Link to this result:" link that you see below the next main graph.

3. What does BT Wholesale Broadband Availability Checker estimate for your phone number? Post just the whole table and the line above it, blanking out your phone number. If it doesn't recognise your phone number or you don't have one, use the Address Checker, not the Postcode Checker.
