Connection Issues

Hello friends,

Hoping someone can help me out here?

We recently had our skybroadband replaced with EE fast fibre 300 (or whatever its called).

It had initially been working well the first couple of days with all devices over the WiFi, however, day by day things keep getting disconnected (SKY Q box, smart tvs, tablets) and would reconnect a day or a few hours laster after resetting the device or hub or after reinserting the password into the devices.

Now it's starting to affect my xbox, which i cant have!!!. It usually works just fine with WiFi with no need to an ethernet cable before todays disconnection. So I reset the router and xbox and it connected fine again. I D
did matchmaking for an hour or so then went about my day. Then came back later and the same issue...not connecting, despite all the test etc...

I beleive the problem may be the router settings and all the stuff about 2.4ghz or 5ghz or compatible WiFi etc. See photos.

So my questions is, has anyone ran into a similar problem and can you tell me the fix that doesn't require resetting the hub or devices everytime?

Thanks in advance.

Try setting up Compatible WiFi on the router under Advanced > Wireless Settings & connect your problematic 2.4 GHz devices to that.

Even for the XBox? Where the online functionality for multiplayer is more ideal?

Just had a look. It seems most of the devices are already connected on the 2.4ghz. And they're still giving issues. 😔

@UniqNo Your security type, the devices you have do not like or are not stable with that level!

Sorry,

  • Im not up to scratch on all that. Are you able to explain? Or help with a solution?

Your devices may be connected to the 2.4 GHz band on the Main network but with a unsuitable Security Type, WPA3. By connecting them to the 2.4 GHz band on the Compatible network they will take on a more suitable Security Type, WPA2.

@UniqNo Your devices will all be WPA2-PSK and do just not like the WPA3-T compatibility mode off operation, so with the EE Hub you have if the primary wifi cannot be adjusted and i think not now then go as @XRaySpeX say's and setup the other mode off operation and with whatever bands you need as an either or situation!

So i did this and now nothing is connecting.

@JimM11. I was just on the phone to the EE guys and went through all the troubleshooting and they didn't mention anything about what you suggested. They instead said the hub is likely to be faulty and are sending a new one out. I highly doubt its the hub itself though and its like you said, must be some of the settings, as its been working fine on my my xbox throughout until today. The other stuff was a bit more in and out.

He also said about the hub being AI etc etc and its learning all the time and its maybe not liking one of my devices. Felt like it was another fob off to be honest.

If this continues I think im going to go back to the slower sky

@UniqNo When you setup the Compatible mode you then set the devices involved to connect to that, is this what you did?

You have to enable comp mode, you will now see another name ie EE-????-Comp i think or similar have linked the help!

Set up and use Compatible WiFi | Broadband Help | EE

Just enabling that mode should NOT stop all the devices that were connected before from working, what EE Hub are you using, see the link to the types below!
