Can't cancel engineer appointment

So my husband confirmed the engineer to come set up our broadband for tomorrow but I wanted to change the appointment. I'm 26 weeks pregnant (currently very ill with morning sickness and can barely move) and I don't feel comfortable being in the house on my own with an engineer for up to 3 hours. Husband has work and can't exactly just come home for a broadband installation. To add more stress to the situation, I tried to change the appointment online via the openreach system but it said I need to call them. But I'm deaf... and I don't use sign language. I'm a bit stuck with what to do as husband is working awkward hours so he can't call them either. Will I get charged for missing the installation appointment?

Yes, you might get charged. There are a no. of points here bearing on this.

  1. You don't contact OR about your appt. The BB contract is with EE. So you must talk to them. They subcontract OR.
  2. If it is your husband who ordered the BB from EE, it is he that must contact EE unless he has set you up as a 3rd-party to represent him in dealings with EE.
  3. When will you be ready to receive an eng. at home? It seems to me that it is necessary for your husband to take a day off work if the BB is to be installed anytime in the foreseeable future.
  4. The above assumes that the eng. needs visit your home. Some simpler installs don't need it.
