I have just been moved to EE under a new contract, as I need my phone moved to 5G, they told me to do the broadband at the same time as they are all one company.. now they are sending a new smart hub plus.. but I use BT discs and they are not compatible! But I can pay 10 a month for extenders! I feel ripped off now! I will send the new hub back and keep using my old one.. is this going to be OK? Really feel ripped off here. Can I revert contract?

The 2 black discs that came free with the BT hub. These  I had prior to being with EE and worked fine with the first router that EE sent me , today I was upgraded to the Smart Hub 2 as part of my superfast 900mb fibre package the discs sadly didn’t work googled it to find that this info was correct. So bought 2 Ethernet cables to go directly from router to both devices that luckily had Ethernet inputs

@Sy8119 Just in case are you sure it is the Smarthub2 and not the EE Smarthub+ see the info link below!

Apologies my new paperwork says Smart Hub+ (plus)
the 2 BT WiFi discs which did work with the previous EE router now won’t work with it

Anyone with this Smart hub plus needs to pay £10 a month more for bespoke EE DISCS

@Sy8119 If you have the BT Complete Black Wi-Fi disk's then they do not work with any version of the EE Smarthub+, device specific models are require so you need the EE Smart Wireless Plus models, but cable will be way better for sure!

Wherever possible I use Ethernet connections and in addition have noe bought a Devolo Magic 2 which utilises the house wiring as an ethernet connection then WIFI is broadcast from the plug in units Ive found this far better than any other extenders

@Sy8119 - those Devolo units/Powerline adapters are fine for lower speeds but once you go beyond 300mbps, you'd be extremely lucky to get anywhere close through the electrical wiring.

Speed  variations occur due to the age of the properties wiring and the distance from the main master unit to the furthest one away

This is the speed I’m currently getting to my music room which is at the end of the property with my living room at the other end . That’s why I opted for a devolo they are a bit pricy  but in this case you get what you are paying for but as I said at the beginning it’s all down to the state of the houses wiring which determines any shiort fall BTW my property is 18 years old so not a new build

@Sy8119 As long as it is working giving you what is needed that is all the units are required to do!

Assume that's the Powerline negotiation rate, rather than the actual throughput (which I'm guessing will be noticeably lower?)

Admittedly lower spec units, but I don't think I've ever seen much north of a few hundred mbps of actual throughput in my environment (5yr old new build). It's been a while though, I've important stuff directly cabled now.

@bobpullen Loosing battle that one, 60 year old wiring no doubt and who cares, powerline is what it is!
