Hi @spa1
Apologies, but I'm not clear from your post what exactly you're asking.
Are you saying that you've already bought a new connection on EE, and want to perform the "port out and back" process in order to retain your existing number?
Or are you saying you're considering a deal with a third party, but aren't confident in the process? If this is the case, is there a reason why you can't buy your chosen phone as an upgrade?
There's nothing inherently "risky" in the process and many people perform it quite successfully, but it is undoubtedly convoluted - and if you're not confident following the correct steps then you could be better off just upgrading. That way, you often just put your existing SIM in your new phone and carry on.
Sorry if I've not understood your question.

Hi Sorry if i was not clear i was with EE but i cancelled my contract which expired on the 28th i still have a few days left of the 30 days notice that they are billing me for i was told by EE that i am no longer eligible for a upgrade option so will need to take out a new contract and they can not move my no to the new sim so if i stay with EE either direct or through a third party i will need to port my no to a pay as you go then back but was advised both by EE and third party seller that it does not always work so safer to change provider

It's true to say that if you've given your 30days notice to disconnect, then you are ineligible to upgrade unless that notice is cancelled.
Also that once that 30days notice has run, unless you've specifically asked to move to PAYG your number is disconnected and will no longer be yours.
