I have just given my old iPhone SE, which was originally an EE PAYG, to my father but despite the fact that I have been on a BT sim-only deal for the last 2 years it says that it is locked. How do I unlock it? Thanks

BT uses and own EE so a BT sim will work in a locked EE phone.
Hi @GordonB66
Please CLICK HERE to review the current unlocking process.
This guide will tell you everything regardless if you have bought it brand new from EE or second hand off sites like eBay or a friend.

Where did you yourself get this device itself originally? Did you buy it yourself new direct from EE or from a 3rd-party reseller or is it 2nd-hand? The unlocking process & costs are different.

Of course it doesn't as it's a BT no.
Provenance of handset please?

PAYG ain't contracts!
Just try applying using the Unlocking your device form as the PAYG option and giving the mobile number that it originally came with.

The wording used on PAYG or contract is irrelevant.
Go to my link and go through the second hand option. As obviously your original number is no longer active on EE

If you bought an iPhone directly from EE after 01/09/15 it should have been auto unlocked after 18 months. Using the form below will also confirm this.
If the device had been on your contract for at least 6 months, even if that contract has now been cancelled, you can just apply using the Unlocking your device form as the Pay Monthly option and giving the mobile number that it originally came with.
