Unique problem need help

Ok some understanding is needed for this problem but might have to leave EE if i can not solve my issue soon. I will do my best to explain.

I tether my iphonex to my PC (unlimited data) I have been doing this for several years with no issue.

Recently there have been issues

The issue is - my services that i want to use on my PC have stopped working and wont work unless I use a VPN.

Example 1 - i want to play a video game online. It wont let me anymore when it use to in the past. my content block is off and i have unlimited data.

If i want to play it i have to connect to a "VPN" this allows me to play the game but because i am using a VPN the quality is low and frustrating.

Example 2 - I wanted to watch a live stream of an event. It wouldnt load. I talked to their tech support and they said no one was having any issues but me.

I decided to try my VPN - it worked when i connected to my VPN - the stream is now laggy because im using a free VPN.

I do not want to buy a VPN, i should be able to use these services without a VPN. There is no content block on my account.

What is the problem?

how do i fix it?

Hi @Mwood1234 and welcome to the community.

I am quite a heavy EE tethering customer and have no issues like you describe. However, sometimes games do not appreciate the IP/routing implementation of mobile networks.

I think a good place to start would be carrying out a network reset on your iPhone: Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. Note: This resets Wi-Fi networks and passwords, cellular settings, and VPN and APN settings that you've used before.

Thanks,

Peter

Hi @Peter_ thank you for your response. Amazingly after a lot of frustration I found the answer!

I dont know what the consequences of what I did are, but will explain it to see if it will be helpful for others or others like yourself who are trying to help the community.

I have seen several threads like mine when looking for the answer of certain sites / VOIP etc not working. Most answers fall short and there are a million things that it could be from resetting to factory default etc.

Assuming you have tried all the obvious things like resetting etc and consider yourself reasonably confident on electronic devices and feel like it is not a suface level issue this might be of some use to you.

First thing to understand is that EE don't really "block" and you will of course set your content block to "off" which only makes things more confusing, well try this.

Change your "DNS"

in your adapter settings you can change your DNS (I used google DNS) You can change your DNS for IPv4 and IPv6. If one does not work then try the other.

I hope this solves issues for others and maybe gives more ammo to tech people trying to help others in similar situations.

If you want I can give a more detailed explanation if needed.
