Sim has different number in smartphone details.

Why does my SIM card have a different number when I look in the "About Phone" section of my MotoG8?

I've always had the same number and always been with Orange/EE.

I believe this is my second SIM card.

It was probably renewed years ago with a multi-size version when Orange became EE.

I've recently switched to using a smartphone after twenty years of using basic Nokia phones so haven't seen this until now.

I've discovered exactly the same thing, having recently switched to a smart phone after twenty years of using classic nokias. I've never had a different number but this is my second sim card (a multi size one), the original was only full size.

And I've always been with Orange/EE.

@AlecJennings : Are you making & receiving calls & texts on the no. you expect? If so, don't worry about what the Settings say.

If you think I helped please feel free to hit the "Thumbs Up" button below.

To phone EE CS: Dial Freephone +44 800 079 8586 - Option 1 for Mobile Phone & Mobile Broadband or Option 2 for Home Broadband & Home Phone

ISPs: 1999: Freeserve 48K Dial-Up > 2005: Wanadoo 1 Meg BB > 2007: Orange 2 Meg BB > 2008: Orange 8 Meg LLU > 2010: Orange 16 Meg LLU > 2011: Orange 20 Meg WBC > 2014: EE 20 Meg WBC > 2020: EE 40 Meg FTTC > 2022:EE 80 Meg FTTC SoGEA > 2025 EE 150 Meg FTTP

Thank-you, yes I am using the number I expect. It is not causing me a problem. I just don't understand how there could possibly be another phone number in the details of the sim card. I've never changed my number, it's the one i've had since i first got a mobile with Orange in 2001.

Hi @AlecJennings,

Is your new phone pre-owned?

James

No. Or at least it should not have been.

I bought it from Amazon EU in May 2020 as a brand new product.

Are you suggesting there was a prior owner and that their (the first) phone number is associated (by internal programming) with whatever SIM is installed?

Hi @AlecJennings,

It could be the old temporary number that was associated with your SIM card before your number was transferred from Orange to EE.

It's nothing to worry about, as long as calls and texts are working with the correct number.
