Setting up new sim card

I've inserted the sim card for over 24 hours and the network has not appeared. I've checked many times and the card is inserted correctly, yet the phone reads 'no sim inserted'. The phone is unlocked. Any help on getting this set up in the next few hours would be much appreciated otherwise I will look into getting a refund, I bought the sim card 2 days ago and feel this is much too long for a set up process.

Does your SIM work in a different phone? Or another SIM in another phone?

 

Are you in the UK at the moment or abroad?
