I want to switch to Samsung A21s does it have wi-fi calling and messaging? I have very poor mobile signal at home

"That's an indicator that you have mobile signal and your calls are being routed over the mobile network."

So does this need turning off, for WiFi Calling to operate?

No, WiFi Calling will connect automatically when needed.

I used the Voice box 22252 to make a call to test. No icon appeared indicating that WiFi Calling was being used.

As a broad rule, WiFi-calling will kick in when you have no usable mobile coverage - indicated by the VoLTE logo.

 

If you have mobile coverage, then your call can use the mobile network and there's no need for WiFi-calling.
