I'd recommend a read of this EE help article which explains the process of transferring your mobile number between providers. There is also a crucial difference between a PAC (what you need) and a STAC (which you have)
A STAC is for giving to your new mobile provider in order to cancel your previous contract and number.
A PAC is for giving to your new mobile provider in order to port your mobile number to your new provider and simultaneously cancel your previous contract.
