Openreach available speed higher than what is being offered

Solace

Hi,

I could do with moving up from the basic fibre package to the faster option but the only option I'm offered via the website is 32mb/s when Openreach is listing that my address is capable of speeds up to 80mb/s.

I'm guessing that the database is just out of date so is there any way that I can get that looked into?

Cheers

Welcome to EE's Home Broadband Forum.

If you would like help with your projected BB speed, please would you carry out the following steps. Do not restart your router to do these tests:

1. Post your current full router stats:

  • For a BrightBox: login and go to Advanced Settings/ System/ DSL Status. Also post 'System Uptime' from top of System Log page.
  • For a SmartHub: login and go to Advanced Settings/ Technical Log/ Information. Obscure your names & any numbers in the BB Username & also the SSIDs.

Full router stats are key to any speed & connection issues.

2. What does BT Wholesale Broadband Availability Checker estimate for your phone number? Post just the whole table and the line above it, blanking out your phone number. If it doesn't recognise your phone number or you don't have one, use the Address Checker, not the Postcode Checker.

There is no way you will benefit from the faster Fibre Plus product. That's why EE won't offer it you. Which OR site gave you the idea you would?

Indeed you are probably not getting as good a speed as you could on you current Fibre package.

I put it on https://www.openreach.com/fibre-broadband/ultrafast-full-fibre-broadband#fibrechecker which you'd assume would be accurate given that these guys are supposed to be putting the infrastructure in not BT themselves (yes I know they're technically the same company).

Ideally I just want more upload speed as I have to send quite large files with work. Pain the bum as well given that I live quite close to tech heavy area of Manchester and the village that I used to live at which didnt get broadband until 2005 is now on Hyperoptic

The Openraech site is a little misleading, it does no show expected speeds, but does show the service type available at an address - ie ADSL/VDSL/G Fast ir Full Fibre.

The BTW site shows the speeds you can expect depending on the service type available.

As @XRaySpeX  mention your speeds are lower than you should be getting and so would be worth putting in some effort to ensure you are getting the most your line is capable of.

That OR site is just telling you that "Up to" 80/20 Meg FTTC is available at your home. You already have FTTC but you are so far from your cab you will never get more than half the top speeds.

While OR does indeed put in the infrastructure, it is BT Wholesale who makes it available & sells it to the ISPs. They are separate companies. Everybody, incl. the ISPs, goes by the BTw site for availability.

The BTWholesale DSL Checker uses the Openreach database for line routing and speed estimates.

I am with bt open reach I am on the fiber 100 package for my broadband which guarantees speed of 100mbps and 150mbps

@lindasmt1 : What does your BT BB product & speeds have to do with the OP? You have diff lines of diff line lengths.

BTW: You are not with "BT OR". OR does not sell BB. Your ISP is BT Retail.
