I have an existing pay as you go sim on ee to try the service out. All good so I decided to transfer my number from Vodafone and get a pay monthly contract.
I just received a new pay monthly sim - which I ordered using the PAC code from Vodafone.
Number did not transfer - I can’t see a way to access the new pay monthly sim from my account as it only shows the existing pay as you go sim!
no idea how to get this new pay monthly ee sim to appear in my ee app along side (or instead of) the pay as you go sim. I also don’t know why the number did not transfer.
Solved! See the answer below or view the solution in context.

@MattSmith1 : You can't mix PAYG & contract nos. under the same MyEE a/c.
You need to set up your new contract MyEE a/c separately with diff email addy. If you haven't got another email addy you need to call CS to delete your old PAYG MyEE a/c & then you can set up your new contract MyEE a/c afresh, using the same email addy.
