I just requested an added sim so my son can have a phone line using my old phone. I didn’t realise that I could share my data and bought a contract that cost a lot more than if I had took a lower priced data contract and shared my data as I have tons. I only did this a few days ago. Am I able to keep the card but get the lower contract and use my data as it is literally half the price and a waste of money considering I don’t even use half of my own data?

If you ordered by phone or online you always have a statutory cooling-off period up to 14 days after delivery to cancel your order FoC. If you ordered in-store you have no such "change-of-mind" right of return.

Thank you. But what if I want to keep the SIM card but just want to change the contract down. Can that be done??

You can't downgrade. You have to cancel & reorder.
